About this item

  • Not only do they produce mouth-wateringly delicious fruit, passionfruit vines can also serve as a stunning camouflage over unsightly walls and fences.
  • Position your passionfruit vine in full sun with protection from strong winds. In colder climates, choose a spot in front of north facing wall to utilise to radiated heat.
  • The passion fruit is a vigorous, climbing vine that clings by tendrils to almost any support. It can grow 15 to 20 ft. per year once established and must have strong support. It is generally short-lived (5 to 7 years).
  • Passionfruit vines grow extensive root systems so ensure the spot you choose to plant has plenty of space, free from weeds, competing plants and grass. They will also spread up to 10 metres squared so choose or build a structure that can accomodate it. Passionfruit vines can be trained to grow along your fence, on a trellis or over an arbour, just install some wire or mesh to support its tendrils.
  • The nearly round or ovoid fruit, 1-1/2 to 3 inches wide, has a tough rind that is smooth and waxy and ranging in hue from dark purple with faint, fine white specks, to light yellow or pumpkin-color. Within is a cavity more or less filled with an aromatic mass of double walled, membranous sacs containing orange-colored, pulpy juice and as many as 250 small, hard, dark brown or black, pitted seeds. The unique flavor is appealing, musky, guava-like and sweet/tart to tart.

I'm excited to get this planted! It arrived nice looking- and is in its water bath now. The passion flower 'Possum Purple' is a strong, self-pollinating plant that produces sweet purple fruit and frilly-edged flowers. It can fruit in a 10-inch pot and needs support like a trellis or stake. This plant is especially vigorous during the summer months and can be grown in a hanging basket with some encouragement!

The 4 small plants arrived in perfect condition. Planted all 4 in a large pot and they’re all thriving. Haven’t had them very long, but they seem to love the northeast Florida sunny weather. Early this I year I ate a lot of passion fruit in Fiji. I tried planting seeds, but none germinated. It will be a long wait if they survive and produce fruit. I hope it’s worth it!

This plant is pure garbage. The image was misleading compared to the photos on Amazon website as it's too small. Now we're not sure it'll even grow due to its size. I do not want a refund but I won't buy from those seller again.

Arrived alive and in decent shape even though it was delayed in the mail. They are small, literally rooted cuttings in very small starter pots.

One can't be certain how well live plants will do when shipped but these have done really well. I ordered 8 and only one looks like it may not make it after being planted for about three weeks. I water the plants regularly and 7 out of the 8 are thriving. My wife remembered these from when she lived in southern Indiana so it will be interesting to see how they manage through a New England winter. So far so good.

Three of Four looked great. One arrived a little weak. Tried to give it some love but it didn't work out. Hoping the other three will produce. Thank you.
