I bought these (4) to use as interior compartment lights in a service trailer - white negatively affects vision adjustments after dark, and red negatively affects my color perception - and found them to be nearly perfectly suited for the job. It is true that the housings are entirely plastic, but the lights are well-protected where they're mounted, and the housings are slotted for flush-mounting, which means I don't have to carve holes in the mounts to keep the wires from penetrating the walls of the compartments. The three LEDs in each cast an amazing amount of light (I had only expected two), and current consumption is negligible. I'd recommend them for exterior mount only where they're well-protected from direct contact, but otherwise they'd be a bargain at half-again the price.

this assembly is potted in a clear potting agent - ought to last a long time even with salt water launches!

I used 8 of these (4 each side) as side markers on a long trailer.The 'chrome' portion is also plastic.On either of the long sides are two small gaps so you can route the wires out if needed. The gaps actually detract from the appearance.
