This gaff works great. Very sharp point but the built in point cover keeps it safe. The ice hook design makes it ideal for fresh water fishing. I use it to land carp.

I don’t know if I can trust this gaff to bring in a big halibut. I live in Alaska and the diameter of the round rod they use is a bit to thin.

you need a heavy duty one... this wouldn't hold up to very much stress...
