We recently bought a two story house and a recent power outage reminded us we needed to take care of some emergency preparedness items, like a fire ladder. I got this one to try out and while it appears to hold a lot of weight as advertised, there were no hooks whatsoever that came with it. At the very least, it should have included the carabiners that are shown in one of the pictures, at most, it should include hooks for you to attach it to a window sill during an emergency. So at this moment in time, the ladder isn't very helpful until I procure some hooks and carabiners for us to be able to use it.

I suppose you’re supposed to separately install eye hooks on the outside of your house so there’s something to clip this to? Otherwise, how are you supposed to attach it during a fire?Well constructed. Just requires advance planning with extra steps and a a high ladder and drill outside to install hooks.

The emergency escape rope ladder will be a great benefit to my fire escape plans. The rope will need support hooks added for it to work. I will only use the rope ladder for a short distance coming from the porch roof to the patio landing. The rope ladder in my opinion, although very thick and sturdy, is secure enough only to use for short distances or a short climb down. I would look for something a little sturdier for a longer climb. But this rope ladder is perfect for my plans anda great purchase.

I’ve always considered ordering one of these ladders as I have a 2 story home and all bedrooms are on the 2nd floor. This ladder is a little on the smaller side and it’s pretty lightweight. When folded, it is the width of a regular ladder but length wise, it is considerable long and easy to allow for a comfortable dissent from a 2nd floor. It is decently well made and appears sturdy and strong and I suspect could hold a fairly decent amount of weight. Overall, good product.

Where we start with this device is that there's no way to deploy it without some additional hardware. The top of the ladder ends in metal loops, but to use it, you'd need to source and install large hooks that fit over your window frame. Other escape ladders come with these hooks preinstalled.Assuming you work around that and get to the point where you're ready to try the ladder, the rungs will pose a real challenge to using it safely. They're a weird material that feels slippery, and, even worse, they spin freely. Putting weight on a round cross-section rung seems like a real slip hazard.Long story short, I don't recommend this one for use in an emergency. I'm going to end up repurposing it for something less critical.

The kids have been focused on fire safety at school, and making sure we have an escape plan. Since there's only one set of stairs, our secondary escape has to be out the windows of our bedroom. This ladder was supposed to be the solution, but it presents more issues than it solves.First, it doesn't comes with all the hardware shown in photos. You basically get a rope ladder with loops ends, and that's it. So now, I have to figure out how to secure it if we ever had to use it. The other issue I see is no easy way to store and deploy it in an emergency. It's just sitting on my floor in a tangled mess right now. If the fire alarm goes off tonight I'll be sitting on the floor trying to unravel it. Because of the way the rungs are designed, there is no easy way to roll it up, so it needs a bag or something. It just misses on being thought out.

I’ve got a quad level home and I’ve always had an element of concern in my mind of fire. There’s only one traditional method of getting down from upstairs, this item eliminates the potential of getting trapped on the second story. The rope and construction seem very sturdy & well built. I did dock this item a star due to the lack of “hooks.” The ladder has attachment points which are metal, however, there is no physical hook for a window frame etc. You essentially have to come up with your own solution, the way it was phrased was that hooks were included. The manufacturers idea of “hooks” are the metal inserts in the rope, which to me are simply a reinforced attachment point. All that being said I think this is a solid value, every home is going to be different in terms of your anchor points. For my particular home I’ll need a hook for the window frame. The price is reasonable, just plan accordingly for your anchor point. Give it a try!
