Heavy and solid mount. First perfectly. A Dremel makes removing the finish where necessary to secure a good ground. I'd buy again if ever needed.

I read reviews for several products that have been sold for a Jeep antenna and flag mount. Most products had a variety of problems, from the need to buy bolts and stacks of washers, to needing to bend the weak bracket for clearance, or force it between the steel tailgate and the plastic spare tire mount is a bad way. This product is far superior. When I opened the box, the weight and 3/16" thick steel construction immediately impressed me. The textured black paint was perfect. The holes have welded on spacers to eliminate the need to buy extra washers. The bracket is easy to install, fits perfectly, and includes two bolts with flat washers and lockwashers. Everything just looks and feels like professional top quality design and manufacturing.I use it to hold a six foot long whip flag for the sand dunes and the bracket does not flex. No clearance issues with the spare tire or the windshield wiper arm. The two holes can easily hold two flags or two long antenna mounts with no problems. I added the TUSK brand hand operated mount to accept a 1/4" diameter flag whip. It is easy to install and remove the flag by just opening the tailgate and turning the TUSK compression nut by hand.Note that if you use any kind of painted bracket to mount a CB or other radio antenna, you MUST scrape off the thick black paint around the mounting hole and also the holes where the two bolts go into the tailgate. The antenna needs a ground plane formed by the tailgate sheetmetal. If you don't do this, the antenna won't work with your radio transmitter properly.

Extremely solid mount. I've banged my antenna on tons of stuff, and this mount continues to hold up. It also takes about 10 minutes to install, so it can't get much simpler. There's a lot of reviews about it leaning to the side. I don't know if I got lucky or they're doing something wrong, but I didn't have that problem. Mine had a little bit of play, so the antenna could have leaned left, or it could have leaned right. It took me a couple tries of tightening the bolts but eventually got it perfectly level with the antenna straight up. Torqued the bolts tight and hasn't budged since. As for grounding it, just grind some of the powder coat off - not a big deal. Or use a big ring terminal that only touches the bottom half of the stud (that's what I did). The alternative is spending twice as much on a stainless mount. I tuned to 1.2:1 with this mount so obviously it's possible to get a good ground.Great mount and can't beat the price!

First off, let me start by saying that this is a very high quality product. I've purchased several items from Rugged Ridge for my 11' Jeep Wrangler Unlimited:Side stepsTrailer hitch mountTail light brush protectorsetc. This item is just as high quality as the rest of those. However there is one major functional issue that I think the manufacturer overlooked - You need a way to ground this mount to the vehicle so that you can lower the SWR of your CB setup without damaging your CB equipment. If you're using this for an off-road flag mount or to mount a 'no ground plane' antenna then its perfect. However if like most people you're going to mount a CB antenna which requires a good ground plane, then you're going to have to make some modifications to be able to ground this.Basically what I did was take a hammer and chisel and scrape off the powder coating down to the metal around the left hole. I then used that hole to mount another stud which connects to a grounding strap. Then on the underside of the right hold (where your coax cable ground shield will touch) I scraped the powder coating off of there down to the bare metal as well. Then I was able to run my ground strap from the left hole through my tailgate and onto the metal surface of my Jeep.I tried this setup the first time without doing that and my SWR was around 2.5 - 3.5 depending on the channel, I could not get it any better. After doing this my SWR is between a 1.0 (perfect) and 1.2 on all channels. My setup is:FireStik II antenna (tunable tip)FireStik mount studFireStik 18' coax cableFireStik SS-3H HD springMy stock spare tire (255 75R17) is also slightly contacting the antenna which may be an issue. I plan to purchase the FireStik quick disconnect which will raise the antenna a few inches and hopefully reduce the contact. The contact is not doing anything to impact my SWR, however it could potentially damage the antenna at some point. Also with it touching the tire, the spring isn't going to do much if you hit something over-head head-on, because the antenna can only flex back so much. I wish Rugged Ridge had done a little additional R&D before they rolled this item out due to that and the issue with grounding.

Could not believe how sturdy and well designed this bracket is. It takes more time to remove and replace the spare tire than it takes to install the bracket. I'm using it fo my 6 ft whip, off-road, safety pennant.I mounted a female compressed air fitting on the bracket and a male air fitting on the end of the whip. Works great!

My only complaint is that the bolts are silver in color, instead of black like all the other hardware on the Jeep. Major oversight Rugged Ridge! Heavy duty, nice wrinkle coat finish. Mounts perfectly behind spare tire and the sliver bolts are not evident to the on-looker. Nice clean, easy installation, positions the antennae perfectly to run the coax into the tailgate and through the hole provided by Jeep. Very happy with the product.

Only gave a 4 star reciew because it is fully powdercoated and the stud has to be on bare metal for proper grounding. I did have to grind the tab down to bare metal.

This mount has a little bend on porpuse so that the antenna won't touch on the spare tire.
