The working parts are not retained and it doesn’t operate smoothly. I fought to get the lid off and on. If the unit is full of cleaner, you will spill most of it trying to get the lid off and on. I wanted to replace my old Spin-Doctor chain cleaner and this was a poor choice though it looks identical.

Disappointing. I've had several of these previously, from different suppliers. They break, they are plastic and bikes have moving parts. But this one broke really quickly - in fact one piece was broken when I got it. It certainly seems to be made of a softer plastic and does not run as smoothly as others I've had.

I think everyone who rides a bike should have a chain cleaner...even a simple kids street bike will benefit greatly from a clean chain, and so a $7 investment is a great idea.Having said that: if you are serious about cycling, you'll probably want to invest in a higher quality chain cleaner...this one does work, even if its a little clunky. The chain rubs across a short brush in the middle that is supposed to turn two cogs that will then spin a larger set of brushes, but its not always the case. The plastic/rubber end is actually nicer than a sponge as it wont wear out...though I can see it catching on a loose quick-link if you have that on your chain. For $7 is it going to be something a pro would use?...probably not...but for $7, it should be one of the first things anyone does when buying a bike from a box store since the littlest bit of maintenance will go a long way in the life of a chain.
