Most of the shakers are advertised for use with powdered sugar, they have small holes, are really a little big for a cinnamon sugar mix to be sprinkled on cinnamon toast. I tried substituting powdered sugar in my cinnamon toast mix so I could use a powdered sugar shaker, but a cup of granulated sugar is equal to 1 3/4 cups of powdered. Hence by volume powdered sugar doesn't seem as sweet. This is just the right size for a cinnamon sugar mix and has user selectable size holes so granulated sugar doesn't get stuck in the holes. Perfect.

I was looking for a dispenser to use for a very specific seasoning that is poplar in Hawaii - Li Hing Mui powder. It is a plum-based powder that is primarily used to flavor dried plums and has been expanded to flavor a variety of other food items. I use the powder to add to cut fruits to give it a tart edge to the natural flavors of the fruit (apples, oranges, pears). The challenge is that this powder is super fine and hard to manage a consistent application. I tired a regular Bell jar and shook out a small amount and it would usually end up collapsing into more powder than I needed. This bottle's smallest opening works perfectly with this application, modulating the amount easily so there is ust the right amount of seasoning I am trying to impart. Itr is easy to fill, the selector moves easily, and it is sturdily built. If it works with this fine powder, I am certain it would work with a variety of contents. Max Joy!

When you use high mineral salt, you want to be sure not to have any steel that will make contact with the salt. This one has a small steel component that allows the opener to twist. Also, the holes are not large enough also for that kind of salt. For regular salt (which you shouldn't use), it is probably fine.
