In early spring, apply when lawn is dry to prevent the germination of crabgrass, foxtail, spurge, barnyardgrass, fall panicum, goosegrass* and oxalis all season long (*for goosegrass control, repeat application in 8 weeks). Apply in the fall (August-October) to prevent moss (except in California), or to prevent the germination of Poa annua, henbit, corn speedwell, and chickweed. Scotts® Halts® Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer is for use on all lawns and grass types (with the exception of Dichondra or Bentgrass lawns). Rain, snow, or freezing weather after application will not affect the performance of this product. Please note, this product controls crabgrass in its early stages of growth. It does not control mature crabgrass and other existing weeds. This bundle includes two 10.06 lb. bags of Scotts® Halts® Crabgrass & Grassy Weed Preventer, covering a total of 10,000 sq. ft.

Halts over the last 5 seasons has worked well. Last year it did not work. Maybe I applied it too late as it is a PRE-EMERGENT. Will try again this year. if it fails again, I will look for a different product & company.

I like this better than Scott’s Halts. The reason: there is no fertilizer mixed in like Halts. In my lawn, I don’t need green fast growing grass in early Spring but do want prevention against crabgrass and other weeds. The early weather (rain) and proper Winter fertilizer in fall is all that’s necessary to have the lawn look good. I fertilize with Scott’s Turf Builder in mid May to energize the grass. No need to force grass in early Spring. It really works for me!

Lots of dandelions after use. So far no crabgrass but the most dandelion’s I’ve ever had. I usually use the other Scott’s crabgrass plus holts with better results. I’m never using this one again.
