I only bought one mat because I wanted to make sure they worked before purchasing several. As you can see in my first photo, I had 100% of my seeds germinate in the flat I used on the heat mat within a few days. The second flat had not had any seed germinate by then - but they are now after moving the flat to the heat mat 2 days ago. I plan to purchase a second or third mat to use for next year. Very happy with this product.

This is a very nice mat. Temperature is pretty accurate and serves to keep the plants warm. I've spilled water many times without damage to the mat. It's fairly tough as I'm not super careful with it. Make sure to water more regularly as the dirt dries out fast with the added heat! But so far the mat is working great.

The temperature control is not as straight forward as it could be. It has a thermometer which tells you the ambient temperature. It does not seem to show you the current temperature of the Matt without going to the settings function.

I chose this seedling heat mat because it came with the controller. Don't want the soil to get too hot - some seeds don't like it hot... but want to make sure it is warm enough! Last year I had a terrible time trying to sprout pepper seeds. So bad, that this year I resigned myself to buying pepper plants already started. So, lettuce is supposed to take about 3 days to sprout with the heating mat - the morning of the 3rd day, I saw the little green sprouts! Tomatoes are supposed to take 7 - 10 days... they were up in 5-6.Next week, I'll be starting my next batch - cucumbers & watermelon. Hope it goes as well.

This stopped working 2 weeks after I started 152 pepper seeds after second week… I purchased 2 and 2 without a thermostat and they wouldn’t replace the broken one. Shop around! I’m pissed

Press and hold set button then adjust temperature. If system loses power it resets to default temperature. I ordered a Mylar backpacking blanket to place underneath to radiate the heat upwards. I use it to keep my plastic mushroom boxes at 75 degrees. Does the job. Digital read out on this product is easier to set than knob version that came with kit.

It is nice that this has its own digital controller where you can set the temp. But something to keep in mind, I bought for use with orchids in particular and the only way the sensor works is to stay wet. That is a bit of an issue with orchids in bark, or other media. I set the temp one night at 80 F by morning it still wasn’t past 75. My house is kept at 68-71degrees (winter) and warmer with the southern sun - up to 72-73 in daytime but then falls at night. I want to keep the young plants media above 75 and under 85 F. It is difficult to check this out. I have thought about using a 4-8 Oz jar (or something close to same size of pots) , filling it with water, test the temp and then see how long it takes to bring the water to a specified temp. Or just use a pot with media only kept wetter than aI would with plants to test the same way. Also, it says it is waterproof but then advises to not get wet. Little hard with trays of seedlings sitting on it or pots of cuttings if you can’t get wet. It has to stay close to heat source to raise temp. Maybe it would work with more moisture retentive media like a smaller size of bark (the small grade of Orchiata)or sphagnum moss. But since I grow in bark, I don’t want to switch to moss for the winter knowing when switched to bark, it will lose its roots and start over. It is just the way Orchids work when you make distinct changes like this. I don’t know if I put moss in the bottom of the pot and let the sensor hit it - if I could tell more but currently I just use it and hope. The plastic is not as flexible as others I have seen and used so not sure how it will hold up up over time. I also purchased it for seedlings and for cuttings but haven’t done this yet but I believe it should work using a typical seed starting peat/perlite or peat/sand or perlite/sand mix kept damp. I believe the sensor may be difficult to keep in anything as it is pretty light compared to the cord which is heavier. But I believe this may be a feature of all in that you need to be care if moving the trays/pots as it may pop out. Being short, kinda hard to get it down deep in the pot. I do disinfect it with 91% alcohol so as not to transfer any bacteria etc to other pots if I move the sensor. One thing that is good is the directions (like others) is printed on the mat. I wouldn’t buy one without the digital regulator or controller as I feel it is important to know the temp so it doesn’t get too hot or not warm enough to to help. Hope this helps.

Highly recommend you spend the extra money for this one with the thermostat. It prevents over heating of seeds susceptible to going dormant when the get too hot. Easy to set. I never read the instructions. I wish it would save the settings if you unplug it buts it’s not a deal breaker. The temps match exactly to a trusted analog soil thermometer so it’s accurate.

I have only used this product, 3 times. Seasonal for my use for germinating garden seeds, will not use again until next year. Pleased with heat feature, easy to read. Appears to work 100%. Did not test temperature control/accuracy using a 2nd product

this is another review, can't find my last one. After using this a month I really like it, all the peppers started perfectly, but even a short flip on the power supply turns off the settings.. so if it happens in the night you wake up to 14.8 C in the soil instead of 24. ( Sorry, pumpkins) What I've learned is any time you see the green light (which means the element is not on) glance over and make sure your red temp reading is what it should be.. Apart from that it's great.
