To quote my 12 year old “It was the best sleep I’ve ever had at a camp.â€Picked this up for my son to take camping this past weekend (Feb 2025) as foam is highly recommended for winter camping because of its insulating properties. He was camping with his scout troop and they made snow shelters to sleep. He slept 2 nights outside in an igloo like snow shelter, 1 night went as low as -32c (-25f). He told me he was “way more warm than last yearâ€. Last year he camped with a blow up mattress, inside a wood cabin. He had the same bedding for both years. It is kinda big and heavy, so not recommended for backpacking. We will be buying a couple more for my other child and us “too old to sleep on ground†adults for summer camping season this year.

Ok, so first things first, this thing is HEAVY. It’s pretty bulky as well, but the weight is more of a concern for me if you’re hauling it into the backcountry with no vehicle or pack mule. The weight isn’t in the body of the listing at all, of course, but let’s just say it better be comfortable and warm with that weight. And, of course, it is. It’s really quite good for what it is. This is a perfect mattress if you’re driving to where you’re setting up camp. You’ll be warm, comfy, and the envy of your fellow campers. It may help you intice that special someone to snuggle up with you, but you may feel the chill of their insincerity when you realize you were being used for your mattress. Or not, who can say?The instructions aren’t exactly clear, or at least, I found they weren’t exactly accurate. The valves are opposite to how they’re described in the paper insert that comes with the mattress. There’s a generous drawstring bag, which is quite loose, but in this instance, I don’t mind, since it makes packing the mattress away a bit easier than the usual stuff sack struggle. You can use it on the ground, and it seems reasonably sturdy and well made (don’t use it directly on rocks or twigs if you can help it, of course), or, as I’ve been doing lately, as a topper for a cot. This latter config means that cots that normally feature a lot of convective heat loss (and ones that start to sag) can have a place in your tent or bunkie, or even your spare room again. All in all, if you’re looking for a warm, thick, durable (as far as I can tell so far) mattress that packs down nicely for storage, this does the job.

Today I am reviewing the Self-Inflating Sleeping Pad, 4'' Ultra-Thick Memory Foam Camping Pad with Pillow. My mattress came in the color green. It was simple to inflate by just opening up the valves and waiting a bit. The mattress was comfortable even while side sleeping. I never felt the floor with my hip. Size-wise, I was impressed as I didn’t feel it was too narrow or short. I’m a big guy (240 lbs and 5’11â€) and I was super comfy on this mattress. One thing to note is the thickness is only about 2.75 inches, not the 4 inches they claim. With that being said, it’s still very comfortable. When it’s time to deflate the mattress, you just need to unplug the first part of the valves as it’s a one-way valve to keep air out and not let it back in. I found the easiest way was to fold it and step on it with your feet ( shoeless) and just fold and step until you get to the valve area, then close the top valve covers. I then proceeded to unfold and roll it up and use the provided elastic bands to secure the roll. Then it was as easy as pie to put in the provided storage bag. Deflation took me a total of 5 minutes! I really recommend this for any avid car camper or even as a guest mattress.

I love camping but I'm getting to the point that I just can't sleep on a standard foam roll as it's nice to have a little extra support and cushioning. Inflatables are a pain with either needing a powered pump, strong lungs or a foot/hand pump to inflate and no matter what they always deflate overnight due to the air temp changes.Since getting a self-inflating mattress I wouldn't go back, simply remove it from the included travel bag, unstrap the roll and lay it flat then open a valve to allow the mattress to suck in air and inflate. I do recommend that before your first use that you unroll and inflate it for 24 hours to give it time to breath back into a normal pre shipping state.Thickness is perfect for providing cushion and leveling over bumpy ground (Even though it's not air take care not to puncture the mattress as you will not be able to deflate it easily) and unlike and air mattress it doesn't deflate on me overnight. Deflating is very simply a matter of opening the valve again and rolling the mattress up starting from the other side, once rolled close the valve and put a strap or two around it to give a bit of support while you fit it in the bag.

First off this is a heavy sleeping pad due to the memory foam inside. It also does not pack small, so don't expect to use this on a backpacking trip. This is, however, a really comfortable self-inflating matress with extra padding and insulation due to the memory foam core. After an initial 24 hour setup it is ready to go (pack down and set up in seconds). The pad is thick and comfortable without the weird pressure points an air mattress creates. It also doesn't sap body heat or let the cold from the ground come through. While this is good on its own I paired it with a cot and it was very comfortable. I would recommend this for car camping to be that much more comfortable without having to take up a lot of room with pumps or the really thick air mattresses.
