The Sharpie brand is the only permanent marker that I trust. I've used different permanent markers in my career and Sharpie stands out among them all. They write smoothly and last a long time. They are bit pricey, but are with it.

The tip on these pens stand up better then the generic type. If you make sure the cap is tight when you close it they won't dry out as fast as other pens.
