I see some people are having trouble using this coupling. I suspect not all 2 1/2 inch shop vac hoses and couplings are identical. It works great with PVC hose purchased on Amazon. It does appear to be shorter than the one in the picture. It certainly would not work without the hose clamps.

I wish it was as pictured - the one I received works but it is probably 1-1/2" shorter in length. It does work to connect 2-1/2" flexible vac hose, though.

I had the same experience that so, so, so many others had: this thing is too loose by about 1/16 of an inch. If you're in the same boat, I found a different coupler that works like a charm:Shop-Vac 9042800 2 1/2-Inch Hose... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F1BYJU0The funny thing is, it's also by Shop-Vac. I'm not even going to try to figure that out.This other coupler fits snug, it's deep enough to keep a good hold on the hoses, and it's also compatible with a screw-ended hose. Absolute winner.

The adapter fits, but is too loose, and is made of a hard plastic, so hoses for my Craftsman vac will not stay attached while in use. I got the adapter to work by applying electrical tape to it on the mating surfaces. No more problems so far. Other than what I have mentioned, "time will tell" about the durability of this hard plastic adapter.I think all of this marginal quality stuff found on Amazon is getting to be too expensive. I make my purchases elsewhere when I can get a better value. It is getting harder to find good quality at a fair price. I always leave a really good review when I find a good value.

If you're a woodworker, chances are some of your power tools have a 2.5" dust port. Often, new woodworkers don't have a plumbed-in dust collection system, opting instead to move their shop vacuum around from tool to tool. A coupler allows you to connect a short length of hose to your tool so that you can connect the vacuum to that rather than reaching under the tool or having wear-and-tear on your tool's dust port. That's how I'm using this coupler, and it is working perfectly for that application.
