I ordered this 10 Pack 100% Cotton 8x10 Inch Stretched Canvas to use for an off-label purpose -- cyanotype prints.I'm always looking for new surfaces to try for my cyanotypes. There are a couple of requirements for a surface to work well with cyanotype. First, the surface needs to accept cyanotype emulsion. Second, the surface must not absorb too much of the emulsion. Finally, the surface needs to be able to withstand extended washing with water.These canvases were fairly easy to coat with cyanotype emulsion. The emulsion went on smoothly with minimal puddling, and I didn't notice any areas where too much emulsion was absorbed by the canvas. Creating the exposure was as expected. Because the canvas has a rough surface, it is not a good choice for extremely detailed subjects. Development in a water/hydrogen peroxide solution went about the same as with other surfaces. Washing was problematic, however. Mild agitation was okay, but if the canvas was subjected to vigorous agitation or running water, it suffered from image loss.I had some concerns that the wooden stretcher bars might warp during the drying process, or that the canvas might shrink and become detached where stapled to the stretcher bars, but neither turned out to be a problem.While these canvasses will work with cyanotype, I'm going to need to find a solution to the image loss problem. I like my cyanotypes to show deep blues, but the ones I get from these canvasses is more of a pastel.

I have been painting for over 40 years and I'm very pleased with the construction of these stretched canvas frames. Thick canvas, sturdy frame well made and holds the paint wall. Highly recommend
