update: they seem to be good enough protection for smaller falls so far. i did just dye them black using rit fabric dye because i think it looks better and they were see through before. I’m a 20 yr old learning to figure skate and i’m about to get started on double jumps and axels on ice so i wanted some protection just in case. I have not skated in them yet but will update this when I do. They don’t feel super bulky. They are pretty noticeable in tight leggings or yoga pants, but are mostly unnoticeable in sweatpants or skirts. I ordered the XL based on other reviews and they fit perfectly, but these sizes do not correlate to street sizing at all. I usually wear an Medium or even a Small in other pants/shorts. So if you generally wear bigger sizes in bottoms, there is most likely not a size that would comfortably fit despite them being stretchy.

I like the fit, but the padding seams tore apart and I had to resew them. In general, the padding seems fine and functional. I like this lighter weight and fit option than others that are available out there.

I'm a 120 lb adult male with a 30" waist, which is to say I don't fit neatly in the sizing chart. Large fits me well, so I suggest sizing based on waist size.I love the idea of invisible pads. These shorts stay invisible and do not restrict movement. The gel pads, roughly 1/4" thick, feel thick enough to provide significant protection should I fall.Unfortunately, there are two glaring flaws: weak stitches and misplaced pads. First, as shown in the picture, the stitches for one of the side pads' pockets fell apart. In fact, they fell apart on both sides. I have skated in them for around 5 times and have not fallen during those times. They need to be built stronger. Second, all three pockets felt 2 inches too low. Unless I pull these shorts uncomfortably high, they protect the meaty part of my hips rather than my bones. They need to be moved up so that they start at the top of the waistband.Overall, it has all the right components, just not put together correctly. I would be among the first to buy a new version, and buy more as gifts, if SkatingSpirit makes a new version.

I usually wear a small in womens, but ordered up to a Medium. It fit like a toddler size. In other words, it did not come close to fitting. So I sized up to an XL and ordered again. It fit. But sadly, the padding -- which I saw on the Medium and fervently hoped would be bigger on the XL -- was still child sized. Adults have more surface area to fall on. These pads were narrow and small, targeting very small areas that one can easily miss during a fall. Also, I barely felt cushioned when I tried gently bumping my tailbone. The hips I didn't feel the padding on at all because I missed no matter how many times I tried falling while aiming for the padding. The pads' holes are a smart idea to reduce weight, and the idea of breathable cotton shorts with packets sewn on for gel padding is a great idea that gets rid of the hassle of placing akton gel on each spot e.g. the famous skatingsafe gel gear that must be held in place with stinky synthetic tights. But unlike the akton gel, these gel pads, while squishy when pushed with a finger, don't seem to provide the same shock absorption. For now, I will stick to my puffy foam shorts as they provide more noticeabpe protection. I hope this company improves their design and I'd be the first to come back.

I play roller derby and I have pads of all types but these are the ONLY ones that I can wear under short shorts without them showing. I love them. They do stretch out like men’s boxer briefs but I wear them under spandex type shorts so they work. They’re also very slim so you can’t even tell I’m wearing them unless I wear white shorts. They still protect my spine when I fall though and I’m kinda bony so that’s important.

You really can wear these under leggings or short shorts and it's completely unnoticeable. Follow the sizing chart -- I'm 5'6", 135 lbs, athletic/slender build -- and the XL fits me perfectly. Of course, the padding is less than what you would get on something bulkier -- but if all you want is a bit of extra protection (which these silicone pads do provide) that is completely unnoticeable -- these are truly perfect.

Comfortable and a good design but the stitching for one of the pockets that hold a gel pad has already come apart and so the pad falls out and slips. This started immediately so it is a Q.A. issue of the manufacturing. I will have to hand stitch it myself.

The gel pads are easy to slide out of the pant.
