Definitely worked for my use case. Covered the outlet pretty well and i used this for the unsupported ring doorbell with battery. However i was able to drill through into it through the ring mounting plate and it ended up working out.

If you’re replacing a battery type ring with the all electric like I did you will need the backing plate to cover area as the electric ring bell is quite smaller but works better and you don’t have to worry about the battery going dead. Even if you hard wire the battery model the battery has to stay in it and maintain a charge. If the battery dies the system will go off line as I found out the hard way. Mine was wired with the battery but when the battery went out after a year ir so it stopped working until I charged the battery back up. So I opted to replace with all electric model

For the money, you'd think you're buying a much more sturdy product. The first one arrived broken (cracked) and a replacement was sent only to have it dropped once and it also cracked. Needless to say, you have to handle with extreme care but it is a beautiful piece and once installed, there is no reason for it to break. That said, good luck with your purchase should you buy one.
