I live in the mountains and I have always bought Smartwool socks for winter as they are very warm, fit well, and wash beautifully. Expensive, but I've found them to be worth it because they last so long and hold up so well. Eventually what seems to happen is the heel area gives out, but I've found that Smartwool socks last several years through frequent washing before that happens. The price on Amazon is the same as in stores, when you can find them (they are increasingly hard to find in retail stores).

I needed some good pairs of hiking socks to hike. The Inca trail. As a runner I’ve used smart wool socks on runs, so immediately tried these guys for hiking. They did not do me wrong. The smart wool fabric is almost unsinkable after a day of hiking. The padded bottoms were comfortable and unlike other people in my group, I wasn’t desperate to take off my shoes at the end of the day because of my comfy, smart wool socks, and my solid choice and hiking shoes. These are a must buy for anyone doing some hiking and needing high-quality sucks that stand up to water sweat and many miles.

A high quality sock with full cushion. These are well cushioned, have pretty colors and keep feet dry, warm and comfortable. Yes they’re pricey but they last for years. I have a pair that’s 7 years old and still looks good- no holes. Be aware that these are made for hiking shoes with a roomy toe box and aren’t meant to be worn with ballet flats.

I have several pairs of Smartwool socks...crew, ankle, no-show. My favorite brand. I wear them when I hike in sandals. The wool keeps my feet warm, and dry quickly if they get wet.

For what these are they are a bit over-priced. They are not warm enough. I have a pair of merino wool socks that are warmer than these and they are no heavier.These fit me well but I have small feet (I normally wear between a 6 1/2 and a 7 depending upon the shoe_Overall nice socks but disappointed in the warmth of them

I bought these socks for my wife for a winter trip to New York. She wore these with tennis shoes in weather down to 5 F and her feet were never cold. She did not need to wear these with a liner. You do need to consider the thickness of these when choosing your shoes.Smartwool is known for their quality and these were up to their high quality standards.

I've purchased sooooo many walking socks over the years and these are the first pair that are true to size, keep my feet comfortable all day and don't bag / sag around the ankles after the first 2 minutes of wearing them. Excellent - highly recommended.
