Product Description

Certified By USDA in 2024

USDA certification indicates that the firewood meets strict standards set by the United States Department of Agriculture to prevent the spread of invasive pests and diseases. These pests can be transported in untreated firewood and pose a threat to forests and ecosystems across the country.

USDA certification involves kiln drying, where the firewood is heated, and any potential pests or pathogens are killed off. This certification is particularly important for firewood that is transported across state lines, as different regions have unique ecosystems that could be negatively impacted by invasive species.

For consumers, USDA-certified firewood is a must and ensures that the wood is safe to use and complies with federal regulations aimed at protecting forests and agricultural resources. Firewood companies like Smoak Firewood emphasize this certification to show that their products are responsibly sourced and processed.

usda certification

THE DRYING PROCESS

  • The drying process is computer-controlled. This process removes about 1/3 of the water and the weight from the firewood, depending on the type.
  • The kiln monitors the internal temperature of the wood to ensure compliance with USDA requirements.
  • This process takes up to 48 hours depending on the type of wood and the moisture level when it is loaded.

USDA KILN DRIED WOOD

CONSISTENT AND SAFE

  • It is easy to start because of the low moisture content.
  • Kiln dried wood has a higher BTU output giving you more heat and flame.
  • Kiln dried wood is much safer because it burns cleaner with less smoke and ash and much less creosote buildup in your chimney.

A little pricey but the quality of the wood is indisputable. The flavor of the smoked meats is worth it.

The delivery was very fast. I’ve bought other wood chunks from them and they are a good size for grilling and adding that extra flavor. So many wood chunks are tiny but all the ones I’ve gotten from Smoak are the perfect size and last for my entire cook. I will always buy from Smoak.

I love the flavor of the wood and the smell while smoking is amazing but when I opened the box, they only had about 10 chunks of wood in the 8-10 box. Quite a bit of money, roughly $4.00 per chunk (may have to find an alternate source for this product that is more cost effective) so i decided to reach out to Smoak Firewood and got an immediate response from their Team taking ownership in the mishap and sent out a replacement box free of charge that I received a few days later with a handwritten apology on the box. This is a great product and what makes it even better is the fact that it is backed by a Team of people that understands the importance of keeping their customers happy. Great job Smoak Firewood, I will continue being a loyal customer!
Great read.

Really expensive versus buying the exact same wood at a big box store. Paid one third the price for the same amount. All hard wood oak. Look identical. Work the same.

My wife bought me a charcoal gravity grill for Christmas and I was looking for wood chunks to add to the hopper. I stumbled across Smoak and decided to order a couple flavors. I liked how it burned and the clean smoke it produced. The family loved the smoke flavor it added to our food. We decided to do a second order and it came with a personalized message on the outside of the box thanking me for ordering from them again. They have gained a long term customer. Great product, great customer service!!

I have bought from them a couple of times. The wood is consistent and with quality size consistent with the descriptions. I run these thru my Masterbuilt gravity fed. I also have one chunk sit in the ash bin on a grate above the ash. Great quality smoke. And good solid burn calories when u need it.

I don't have a dedicated offset smoker. I have what I call a McGiver smoker. It's a rectangular charcoal grill with hight adjustable coal bed. I made a firebox on one side w/ fire brick. The wood chips you can buy anywhere burn way too quickly. These last where I may use one or two chunks. The oak smoke works well w/ both beef and poultry.....haven't done any fish yet. If I had a real offset smoker I would get a rick of locally produced splits, but for me this is the answer. A box last all season for me. I'm on my second box, which shows I really like the product. Some of the chunks have bark. Take a chisel or flat screwdriver and split that off. Bark doesn't taste good. Not a complaint.....its real wood after all.
