You definitely don't NEED something like this, especially when it doesn't work half the time. There seems to be an issue with air getting into the smoke box. I've tried different starters, different wood chips; and still the performance is severely lackluster.It's in no shape to return, so I'm stuck with it. Don't know whether I'll keep experimenting with it or just toss it, but I'm sure I'll find a use for it down the road.

This smoker box is smaller than I expected, but it’s okay. I got it to smoke my meats indoors. It works well when placed in a roaster pan, underneath a rack holding the meat. I place the lid on the roaster and allow the meat to smoke.The flavor is pretty good if you are using the right kind of wood to smoke the meat. The wood must not be doused in any fluid.Overall, this is a durable smoker box, and I recommend it.

So far so good, has good amount of holes for smoke
