How it Works
Our gardening plant moisture meters makes use of the different conductivity of the metals at the tip of the probe. Since water is a better conductor, then the higher the moisture level the greater the conductivity. This way, our hydrometer soil relies on durable indicators without using a battery.

I'm using this to judge houseplant moisture over winter. Easy to use, even in plants that are too thick to feel the soil and certainly more accurate than sticking my finger in the soil! It was revealing, as many plants were wetter than I thought. Comes with a chart on the box to tell how moist certain plants should be.

Small dial but gives reasonable readings. Prevented me from worrying too much about soil low ph. Actually testing in good ph range with this. I have moss in shady areas of lawn which often means acidic-low ph-conditions.

This product has been so helpful in my yard/ garden! I keep a binder of my current plantings, flowers, shrubs etc and notate any issues I’ve had with a particular plant. I regularly monitor for pests, disease etc, yet had some issues with specific plants in my yard. I document when I fertilize and with what fertilizer but never took the time to actually test is a particular product was impacting my soil. Using this tool, it has helped in monitoring the actual soil near each plant, and now I understand so much more, particularly surrounding the pH needed and what the actual pH of my soil is. I have many acid loving bloomers (I am in zone 10a, which is rough to maintain due to drought, too much sun etc) and they would thrive but then I may have a few that took a nosedive. Through this tool, I realized how alkaline my soil actually is and how long each amendment to the soil actually worked. I previously depended on the manufacturers claims, but now, I have a yard that thrives more than not because I can add the appropriate amendment based on pH including other factors.If you struggle with the same, get this tool! I’ve had this meter for a few years now, and it’s been the best way for me to water my one houseplant properly. My plant no longer gets stressed because I forget to water it! I would like to say that this has worked well for me but it has not. It did not work out of the box. I literally SOAKED my plant because it wasn't registering the water. Some days it appears to work ok, then other days it just doesn't. This is no better than the old meter that I purchased this one to replace. I'm sure this one is just bad. By the ratings it seems that most people like it. Mine is just a dud I guess.

Worked ok a couple of times, then never could get it calibrated again for moisture. No matter how much I dry it it still always says moist, and I live in the desert so there's hardly enough humidity to give it such a high reading. Then the tine tip broke off, and I had to retire it immediately, but I do have hard soil. All in all, save it for your soft ground, don't bother if you need frequent use.

I'm not a great gardener and this works great for letting me know when I need to water my plants! It is very easy to use, simply insert next to plant. The display is big enough to read and organized enough to differentiate between the different readings.

This is good quality, not plastic crap;). It seems to read the moisture content well and the PH soil but the later is harder to read on the gauge because of the size of the font. I recommend in terms of value for price.
