The Sony SLV-N51 four-head hi-fi VCR satisfies your recording and playback needs, offering such features as commercial skip, which automatically advances the tape 30 seconds when activated; flash rewind, which offers a complete rewind of a T-120 tape in a mere 60 seconds; and instant replay, which skips back a few seconds to replay a compelling scene or bit of dialogue. The device also employs a plug-and-play setup, so users can be up and running in mere moments (the channels and clock tune automatically). Video performance is enhanced by the dual azimuth four-head recording and playback, which enables two speeds for SP mode and two speeds for EP mode. The slower EP mode is nearly as sharp as the SP mode due to the 19-micron heads, which reduce distortion and deliver a clear, digital-like picture.
Users will appreciate the convenient multilingual onscreen display; the crystal-clear freeze frame, frame advance, and search modes; and the index scan, which helps locate a specific program on a tape without fuss. As opposed to VCR's with manual tracking, the SLV-N51 includes sophisticated digital auto tracking adjustment that smoothes playback. The VCR also employs an eight-event timer, auto head cleaning, a parental lock feature, and front AV inputs for connecting to a camcorder or game system. In addition, the SLV-N51 is Energy Star compliant.

Since these are awfully hard to find nowadays, and my husband and I are older and have lots of VCR tapes we are enjoying watching some of our old old things that we have recorded from our children’s childhood and our own. So we are very happy with our purchase thank you.

First of all doesn’t work!! Won’t play and won’t rewind and now won’t eject tape of my daughter’s first Bday party from 1993. I guess when I saw the tape rewinder that came with it was hint that it doesn’t work. On top of that it looks like he picked it out of the garbage and charges over 100 bucks!!

VCR came in, works fine, I was able to use it to convert VHS tapes to digital using a special adapter.

This is the 3rd VCR I've bought here and the first one that meets the threshold, barely, of usability for me. I have an old VCR/DVD combo, but the original Remote quick working long ago and haven't been able to find a replacement. All I wanted to do is pre-set the times and channels for a few show I want to watch without having to do it manually. I go to bed early and it's a pain to get up to manually set the record feature.Anyway, this SONY meets that very basic requirement. Only got it yesterday and set it up this morning. Two problems though, It won't record at EP or SLP, only SP. So my longest tape at 2hrs, 45 minutes at SP will have to do. Other issues, did a test record and when playing it back the audio is just at the level I can hear and make out what's said, etc. Also the remote, while a SONY, is NOT the one shown here on Amazon and is more complicated. With more experience I will likely work out a few more functions like on screen display for rewind, fast forward, etc. Bottomline, if I hadn't had credit card points that paid for just over half of the cost for this machine, I'd likely return it. But at least I can pre-set it to record with on screen display which I couldn't do with my other machine.

It'll serve my purposes but I was hoping for a better picture quality. The unit lacks a tracking control which would possibly improve picture quality. The remote appears to be for a Sony TV, not the VCR, so many controls on the remote are unnecessary. The unit has ejected some VHS tapes as soon as I put them into the VCR, and also refused to rewind some tapes - uncertain as to why this is happening.

This VCR works great! I did a lot of off & on searching for a replacement for my old Sony over the summer and into the fall. This caught my eye because it's a Sony, was priced fairly, and the seller had good reviews & feedback. I always wait for a few weeks at least before reviewing electronics & this VCR I've been using since October 2020 . It's almost identical to my old one, came with a Remote that shipped in the same package as VCR, so that made it even better I didn't have to wait to use it. So far it has performed flawlessly, & is a much better option for me than the more expensive VCR TO DVD converter machines. Very happy & would buy again!

Picture didn't appear clear - filled with lines.This is the only Sony product that malfunctioned.I love Sony products but this VCR failed and would cost too much to return. -US custom duties additonal from Canada.
