The IRWIN SPEEDBOR Max Speed wood drilling bit is the FASTEST SPEEDBOR EVER. The Speed Tip features a full screw-point that allows bit to self-feed, as well as three (3) cutting spurs for faster, cleaner holes, less breakout and extended drilling life. The tapered tri-flute design allows for faster chip ejection and less binding. Its grooved hex shank prevents slipping and fits all standard 1/4" quick-change chucks, including impact drills.

I have used spade bits and hole bits and while each has it's purpose, if you're drilling through joists or sill plates (or any other wood for that matter) these bits can't be beat. Once it gets started it forcefully pulls its way through like nothing. I drilled through a joist where I had to be careful where the bit came through on the other side (existing wires) and I had to hold it back to slow it down going through. It is amazing how easily these chew through wood.

This is a great little bit for those tight spots . It cuts a good clean hole and it self feeds very fast .

Cut very fast holes and the hex shank allowed me to use my impact wrench instead of my drill.
