This thing is a life saver! Paper templates were a subpar alternative. I have another set of stairs to cover (LVP riser, peel and stick faux wood vinyl treads) that I have been dreading and delaying. This is going to make the project go so much faster and smoother! I will need to make shorter edge pieces to fit my 6†stair height, but that’s easy enough! If you’re doing risers, keep that in mind. It would be a great upgrade if the seller included a shorter set (or made the 10†adjustable) to make this even more versatile. The included edge pieces are 10†and with 1/16†marks. A silver edge piece will also work great as a guide to cut the edges of the peel and stick with precision. For my 33.5â€W stairs, I put together two 16†sliders and an 8†slider. I didn’t see instructions in the package, but I came back to the listing photos and put it together quickly. I appreciate the zippered case that keeps all of the pieces together. The time it will save is worth the price x100!

This gauge works very well. You have to determine the right lengths to use depending on what you are measuring, but once you have it assembled it is super simple and handy. What I really like is it can be used for more than stairs. For example use it between two wall studs if you want an exact measurement. Just put it in place, lock it down and you have the inside width of the stud. Once the screws tighten down, it stays so the measurement is true. One thing I wish it did was lock in place, or have a distinct mark where the ends are exactly 45 degrees. You have to use a square or just get it close. The case is very convenient to have too. Overall it totally has a use and I'm glad to have it. I hope this was helpful.

I could have used something like this on some of my previous DIY projects like replacing my stairs treads or when I was cutting the wood for my DIY sink counter for my bathroom. I was going for the modern look with plumbing pipes for the legs and one of those standing sink basins or whatever it's called. Well, turns out my walls were very not straight and were all sorts of angles. This would have saved a lot of trouble cutting the wood and less caulking on the gaps. Can't wait for an opportunity to use it.

This is a well crafted set that makes installing stairs a breeze. The kit contains varied lengths of heavy metal tread gauges that will accommodate any width of stairs. (Mine are 48" wide.) The screw knobs have metal threading in them so they won't slip when tightened. There are rubber washers included so that the lengths, when attached, will always be on the same height. The lengths themselves are heavy enough not to bend or warp. Once the measurement is made, the template is easily lifted and retains the measurement. I think there may be other uses for this gauge such as floor installation. Good value for the price.
