Many VHF radios do what this does, but none of them are as small.Sun is extremely high on this product.

This is the 2nd radio transmitter. The first one had battery issues. I could not find a replacement for the battery so I bought the radio again. Of course it has limited range. Good to have even if I have a cellphone.UPDATE: January 2024. So far this handheld VHF has survived being rained on and sprayed with seawater. I keep it mounted on my PFD that I always wear. I bought the external mic/speaker that attaches top of PFD. No problem hearing any transmissions.Update: 10/24/2024/: Used during hurricane Milton during evacuation to keep contact with wife driving behind me. I also bought the orange waterproof cover. Definitely recommend the external mic.Only thing to change is the charging status on the radio. It is very small and up in the right corner of the little screen.

Left it on my boat for a year. The battery still worked. Charged it up but the PTT button is shorted. I can't believe how much I spent on this radio. You are better off buying a $30 Baofeng and programming it for marine channels.

It doesn't like to be in extreme heat but it still works display gets a little wonky but all you gotta do is turn it off and on again battery lasts 3 days
