About this item

  • Designed for Precision - The Starrett 380 Series Steel Straight Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It provides users with accurate and consistent results.
  • Not Beveled or Graduated - This tool does not have a mark of units for measurements and a slope on its edges. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness.
  • Easy to Use - The Starrett Steel Straight Edge thickness and design permit shape retention and accuracy. This tool is portable, easy to use and easy to handle.
  • Best Performance - The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection.
  • The Standard for Excellence - Proudly made in the USA, Starrett combines over 140 years of American heritage and innovation with globally sourced materials to deliver exceptional quality tools and products.

Product Description

The Starrett 380 Series Steel Straight Edge is precision ground and nicely finished to rigid Starrett standards. It is unexcelled for drawing or scribing straight lines and checking surfaces for straightness. Its thickness and design permit it to retain shape and accuracy, but still be portable and easy to handle. The 380 Series is not beveled or graduated. The 385 Series are beveled one edge, but not graduated. The 387 Series has one edge that is both beveled and graduated in 32nds of an inch. The 380 and 385 Series in sizes 36" and longer are marked with arrows at two suspension points. If the straight edges are brought to the work and used on edge, they should be suspended at these two points to minimize deflection. Most jobs involve the use of straight edges in the flat position - and it is in this position that we check most stringently. 12" (300mm).

Straightedge! Happiness! Beautifully straight and flat on the edges (though if course not as accurate used on a corner and held up to the light).

Shipped in a paper sleeve, which was not protective at all. Just like many here already said, the finish is from an 80-grit grinder, but... it is straight and solid.

At the price, and given the need to keep a machinist's straightedge "perfect", I expected a protective box or case of some sort. I made my own, but didn't expect to have that expense in time and materials. Arrived packaged loose in a shipping box, in air cushion bags; that was not what one should expect for a delicate kind of tool. Seem fine but could have been bent in shipping given minimal protection. Otherwise fine, and arrived promptly.

I bought two of these. First one had multiple dents and burrs so it would not lay flat. Returned and purchased another one. Second one had chunks missing from the ends and dents. I returned both of these since they could not be used.

The product is as it's advertised. A protective sleeve or case will be a good idea to include on the sale of this product.
