There are three ways to play the steel tongue drums: mallets/finger picks/fingers. Playing with mallets produces a thicker, louder and clearer sound. Playing with finger picks is a very interesting and flexible way to play. Playing directly with your fingers strengthens your connection to the drums.

Got this for my husbands grandparents and now everyone wants one including me! Beautiful sound, beautiful colors and decent price! Also very impressed with how big it is! It was just about the size of my hand! We’ll see how it holds up in the rain, but I have no doubt it’ll be great

Wasn’t sure about this when I made the purchase, for one I don’t like repetitive sounds and I purchased it as a gift for my 8 year old. It has great sound quality and omits a very nice calming sound similar to a nice wind chime. My daughter loves it, it holds her attention for a long time and she enjoys making her own music. I think it helps to calm her as she seems to really be relaxed after playing it. No sound combinations are unpleasant so it helps to not be bothersome to a parents ears

I put it under where the water runs off my roof in several directions. Plays wonderfully!! Not loud but loud enough. Saw the idea of using these under rain drpps on the internet, what fun. Clever gift for a homeowner.

It's not perfect, but for the low price, it's very impressive. Depending on where you hit the note, it can sound dull or overly metallic. But if you hit just the right spot, it rings beautifully. The mallets are nice to play loudly with, but I have roommates, so I like to use the finger mallets on the elastic bands when I want to play but don't want to disturb anyone.

What I don't understand, (OK, one of the things I don't understand about this) is how can such a small item sound so good? I am astounded. Versions of this was done well before the industrial age in various cultures around the word, primarily for religious purposes (google it!). My final observation is that it's amazing this was produced so well at such a low price. I'm musically declined (not a misspelling), but its' still fun to thump on it since it just sounds so good! If you don't want to buy one, talk a friend into buying one so you can hear what it sounds like. I'm now going to search for some tongue drum music...

Designed to be out in the rain but have noticed most rain drops are not hard enough to make any sound. It’s a subtle amount of sound. The numbers started coming off almost immediately. Does sound good when hit with the sticks. Has a nice weight to it but for the price - I would say not worth it.

My kids love using it to play around. It’s very calming and everything sounds great on it. Then I stick it out every time it rains and listen to it with the windows open—pure magic.
