I was so sure om buying it, since some reviewers were saying it wasn't necessary for certain years. Mine is a 1999 subaru impreza 2.5rs coupe and it actually made a difference is my shifts. As soon as I take it out of gear it springs back into neutral very quickly! Don't know how else to describe it but it makes shifting a lot for smooth and precise. I had already replaced the shifter bushings, but wasn't really feeling much of anything until this little spring was added into the mixture.

A lot of Subarus are missing this spring after years of use. Check out a YouTube video for details. I jacked my car up to look and sure enough no spring. You can’t go wrong with a factory part.

According to part, this fits a 2002 wrx, however starting in 1999 to 2005 subaru used an internal transmission return spring so this part is not necessary. They still have the bracket, but they did not use the spring. So, this part is really not needed. If you have slop in the shifter, it’s usually the knuckle joint that has worn out. Plus the bushing at the either end of the shaft should be replaced at the same time.

After installation, there is still just as much play in the shifter as there was pre install.... But it atleast rattles annoyingly now....

Not much to say, its a spring. Looks just like OEM parts and packaging for a lower cost than from the dealer win-win for me as I did not have to drive an hour away to get to the dealer.

Installed the missing load spring in the 2002 wrx manual shifter linkage and fixed the loose and play movement along with some bushing upgrades
