One of my filter holders was not coming loose. I pushed as hard as I could with the plastic wrench, but the filter wouldn't budge. I extended the handle of the wrench with a pipe and succeeded in breaking the handle off. When this wrench arrived, I removed the stubborn filter housing with ease. It's a little longer (more leverage) and sturdier (more of my force gets to the housing). Perfect for the job!

After the handle on a plastic wrench broke removing a filter, I figured it was time for a more durable metal one. It's durable but the tabs that engage with the filter houwing are not deep enough, so if you get a tight housing, the tabs simply tear through the plastic ribs on the housing before it comes loose. The old plastic wrench had much deeper tabs so never had trouble like this. This tool was a huge disappointment. I'd return it if I could but I am timed out because I only have to replace these water filters a couple of times a year at most. Now I'm stuck with a shiny, expensive tool I can't use.

Shattered my plastic housing wrench and cut my hand in the process. This was the best solution I could find and it works pretty wellPro:Longer handle = more leverage to unscrew the big blue filter.Will not breakFairly pricedCon:The metal itself could be a heavier gauge/thicker. This would put more surface area on the contact points of the filter housing. This actually letft marks in my filter housing where it bent the plastic ridges a bit.

That filter is so difficult to remove, I was giving up and instead replacing the entire housing. That ends now! That cheap plastic remover handle from Home Depot is an absolute joke! This metal handle changes the game. I’m thrilled that I opened mine today with this handle plus a couple helper steps1. Used a 3 ft long pipe for added leverage.2. Uses a piper hanger strap to fasten the filter housing securely to the wall. Avoids that cheap mount from flexing3. Used a hair dryer to warm up the filter housing.And now it twists off easily- thank you!!

Exactly the tool I needed to loosen a Pentek big blue 20" filter. If you are struggling to loosen the filter housing with the plastic short handled wrenches then you likely need to be using the Superb wrench SW-4 metal wrench. Longer handle = more leverage. A bit pricey, but worth it and still way cheaper than a service call.
