This looks like a solid educational tool, and I think the extra math cards and counting sticks will be useful for both my 2-year-old and 5-year-old as they practice early math skills. However, I don’t love that the rods are metal instead of wood—it just doesn’t match the aesthetic and feel of a traditional wooden abacus.I’m also not a fan of the wooden sticks—they are thin, small, and pose a choking hazard. That being said, I think this will still be a helpful resource for hands-on learning, and I appreciate that it comes with multiple ways to engage with numbers.

I say this toy is one of the perfect examples of “you get what you pay for”. While it came with many things in one small box that had mostly Chinese characters written on it, the overall product quality was subpar. The abacus was flimsy and could flip over easily, and the number cards were merely the thickness of two or three layers of thin papers. But at least they were honest with the price for such quality, it didn’t feel like a ripoff.
