This has a nice textured enamel finish that is mostly copper-colored with little flakes of black.The sealed ball-bearing works smoothly and silently.That allows the wind-speed cups to actually spin! ( unlike other weather vanes we've had.)The stainless steel post should resist rusting. It does require a drop of oil (once a year) to keep the rooster spinning.My plan is to bring a little can of 3-in-1 oil up to the roof every fall when I clean the gutters.My wife, who is directionally-challenged, wondered how I got the East-West direction letters so perfectly aligned. She watched me from the ground as I did this four-minute job just as the evening sun was going down."Did you use a compass? Did you use the compass in the car-mirror? How could you see that from way up there? Did you use your smart phone? Ask SIRI? HOW?"I just looked at her and resisted the urge to face-palm.When I pointed silently at the setting sun, it took her a full ten seconds before dawn broke over marble-head.So, there's a tip: Install this near sunrise or sunset to get the East-West directions right.To prevent water from infiltrating under the mounting plate into screw holes, I recommend using "pole-barn screws." They have a neoprene washer that effectively seals out water. They are also convenient since they are self-tapping and fit into the 1/4" hex-hole on every cordless impact-driver. (no special bit needed) You'll want two-inch long pole-barn screws that are slightly less major diameter than the 3/16ths" holes. You only need four, but good luck buying just four. Luckily, those screws are super handy to keep on hand for MANY other jobs, so buying a whole box is not extravagant.You could also use silicone caulking under each screw and in the screw hole if you pre-drill.I did both of those things because I'm OCD that way.Installation was easy. Although the metal is robust, it is easy enough to bend so it conforms to the pitch of your roof.I mounted this on a cupola, so I had to flex it just a little, then it fit our peak perfectly.Time will tell how well this lasts, but from the look and feel of it, I suspect it will be there until the asteroid hits.

A great weather vane. From what I can tell after handling it, it is made of steel but covered with a copper colored powder coat. Assembly was a non-issue, simply slide the three pieces onto each other and tighten with a flat head screwdriver (total of 1 minute). The anemometer has a ball bearing ring to make it spin easier. The arrow part is a rod in a cylinder, and spins freely. I added a little lubricating oil to the moving parts before mounting it on my chicken coop roof. Install was easy. The mounting bracket comes in a pre-set angle, but can easily be bent by hand to match your roof ridge profile. I was able to slightly adjust it even more after screwing it into the roof, by nudging it over with my bare hands. It looks great and immediately point to the wind direction, and the anemometer has been spinning freely. I worry about the steel and ball bearings rusting out after long exposure to the weather, I predict it will start to wear out and rust after 2-3 years, but will keep my fingers crossed. When you compare the cost of this weather vane to solid copper versions sold on here, you could buy 4 of these for every one of those, so it's a good deal.

I ordered the top only and maybe I didn’t read the description thoroughly enough but I expected the NSEW directions to be included with that. I was wrong. It still looks cute on top our chicken coop but I don’t know if this product have longevity. Nice for the cheaper price but if you looking for high quality weather vane then this may not be for you.

This is an inexpensive, easy to install weathervane that actually works. I just completed our backyard chicken coop, 4X8X7 foot tall, when this vane arrived. It arrived undamaged, very quickly, and I had it up in 15 minutes.It's lightweight and pretty with a separate but solid base that can be bent by hand to mold to roof's incline. It shows four holes to nail or screw to one's roof. The rafters on my coop are made up of 2x3's which means they're only 1 1/2 inches in thickness. So, I screwed another 2X3 piece to the rafters because you need almost 3 inches of wood to support the base. No biggie.The cups spin to the wind on a bearing and the chicken arrow moves. The directionals are the least to be swayed but do. They all simply slide on the base. We have strong winds here, but I believe the weathervane will hold up since it's light and the wind resistance minimum.The kids love it. I like it because of the cost, there's some mighty pricey ones out there, the size and the quick delivery.

Good product. Bought a second one. The base is adjustable to mount on horizontal flat roof roof or angled roof.

I bought that for my father to mount on our fence. Size was perfect and the arrow and cups are moving with the slightest breeze. PerfectAssembly was a no brainer.

This is the second time I have ordered one of these weather vanes from Swen Products. The first one latest 5 years until the directional bearing ceased. I am happy with this product and the delivery service.
