The perfect burner for a great fondue, easy to use and clean if required. I have been doing a fondue for approximately 40 years mainly cheese using the recipe of The Chateau in Gruyere,Switzerland where I went monthly for 5 years and where the fondue was invented and they use the same burner. I lived in France almost 10 years and always had visitors to entertain.

Nice burner for liquid gel fluid. Heats evenly and easy to control. Fit my vintage le creuset fondue maker perfectly.

I bought this Swissmar fondue burner, because I want to use inexpensive denatured alcohol as fuel rather than gel fuel or Sterno. The Swissmar fondue burner will accommodate prepackaged gel fuel capsules, gel fuel from a bottle, and liquid fuel. It has four parts: the base cup, a liquid fuel container, an adjustable burner cover, and a lid. Swivel the burner cover in order to open the burner. Gel fuel capsules will fit into the base cup. If using gel fuel from a bottle, remove the liquid fuel container, and pour the gel directly into the base cup. For liquid fuel, place the liquid fuel container is in the base cup, and pour the fuel into the container. For a one-course meal, about an eighth of a cup of denatured alcohol is plenty. Light the burner with a long match.This seems simple enough, and I used to have a fondue burner similar to this one that worked perfectly. But the Swissmar has some problems. First, the liquid fuel container contains a layer of what looks like fiberglass to hold and evenly distribute the fuel. But there is not enough fiberglass. It doesn't come up far enough in the container, so it can be difficult to set the fuel afire. It needs twice as much fiberglass. Secondly, the adjustable burner cover barely works. It is not possible to get a low flame, even with the ventilation holes completely covered. I sometimes have to turn the burner off in the middle of a meal, because the flame is too high. My old fondue burner was easy to adjust. I suspect that the hole in the middle of this one is too big.The handle of the barely-adjustable burner cover is another annoyance. There is no handle on the base cup, so, when I try to turn the handle on the burner cover to adjust the flame, the whole thing moves. There's no way to hold it steady. So, although the Swissmar fondue burner works, and a burner that accepts multiple fuel sources is a great idea, the design is ill-conceived, and the quality is poor. The metal is tinny and does not give the impression of being sturdy. The burner is almost 4 inches in diameter (11 cm). It is 7 inches (18 cm) long including the handle and 2 inches (5 cm) tall with the lid on. I wish I could recommend a better fondue burner, but the Swissmar is the best one I could find. And it's not fully functional. It's poorly designed and cheaply made.

Perfect replacement for my fondue burner!

Works great once you practice with it some. You need to fill it fairly full with fuel, otherwise it is difficult to get it to stay lit. Once you get a feel for how much fuel to put it, it works fine.
