Make a Banana Keyboard!

While designing this synth, we realized we could connect the synth’s touchpads to different conductive objects, turning them into keyboard keys! Since we had so much fun with this feature, we include alligator clips with each synth so that you can invent your own keyboard. When not learning about how sound works, you can test the conductivity of different objects and see which ones complete a circuit, turning this product into a complete STEM learning experience.

An Analog Synth for All

Other synthesizers are expensive or hard to understand, so we created a simplified synth that anyone can get their hands on! For musicians, the Synth-a-Sette is great for playing melodies on the go, or as an extra input in their studio. And for students, this mini synth is a great introduction to analog sound synthesis and can be used to turn everyday objects into keyboard keys.

Easy to Play, Wherever You Are

Start playing as quickly as you can install AAA batteries (included) or plug it into a USB-C cable (not included). Includes both a built-in speaker and headphone jack. While this synth only has a 13 key keyboard, we also included an octave touchpad, which raises the note played up an octave, giving you easy access to two octaves of notes. And when you’re done playing, you can safely store the Synth-a-Sette in a cassette case.

My son who is three just broke his leg recently( and now its hard to get him to stay in one place) when I started playing with this synth he was intrigued and it turned into us just playing with music and science, and seeing how loud we could get it my auxing it into a sound bar. So much fun works great on forks.

My college age kids loved this groovy little synthesizer. It’s a novelty for sure, but they (two music majors) were jamming out. For what amounts to a circuit board, it seems well designed and durable. Plus the guy who makes them seems to offer really great customer support. This is probably a good fit for a musical STEM kid, or a musician who likes to fool around with retro synth sounds. Raspberry Pi nerds will geek out as well.

I've had a blast playing with the synth-a-sette!!It's a neat little gizmo that is pretty easy to set up and has a nice sound. The part I love the most is how creative is allows you to be in constructing your "keyboard." I used succulent leaves at first and went from there. It's great that there are controls for volume, tuning, and vibrato - as well as a headphone jack - which you might not expect for something that fits into a cassette case. As a musician, I would recommend this to anyone who likes tinkering with new instruments and discovering new sounds.I also highly recommend this for educational settings because it is relatively easy to put together, a good introduction to electronics, and highly creative.

I'm a semi-professional musician, but usually playing guitar. Over the past few months I've been collecting a number of small, pocket-size synths and other instruments (tin whistle, ocarina, harmonica) just for fun -- and maybe some day doing a quirky band with odd instrumentation. ;-) The Synth-A-Sette seemed perfect for that, and in THAT capacity it does not disappoint. Works fine right out of the box. Read one instruction card, and you're on your way.The only tech hitch is you need to make sure you're completing a circuit somehow. Usually, just holding the device in your own two hands is enough. But if you use the alligator clips to connect to things, just make sure you follow instructions and make sure you're connected to ground in order to get a sound. (just to be clear, there's no physical danger in not being connected to ground -- you just might not get a sound). The only other hitch is the price seems a little high for a synth with no features other than tuning, vibrato, volume, and a power switch (although USB and battery power is nice to have). But really, the point of this synth is making simple music while also making interesting visuals. With the SEVERAL alligator clips included, you can connect it to anything conductive to control the notes. And I think that would look really cool in a video or live on stage.Customer support is also very good. I had some concerns when I first got this in the mail, but I got a very quick and very nice response from a human being that made sense to me. No speaking to a bot or anything like that.BOTTOM LINE: Pricey, yeah. But it makes a nice sound,. You can make actual music with it, and you can look super cool while doing it. Be creative. ;-)
