I couldn't believe the difference when I put this spindle in. I should have done it a long time ago. The water shuts off completely now without any dripping. Now, it shuts off with an easy turn of the handle, with no effort. It was also straightforward to install.

Well the product did work, I wound up with a water hammer effect because of the apparent differences in this valve compared to the OEM. I have to turn the water on slowly and off slowly to avoid the water hammer... When I get time again I will probably eventually replace it with an OEM.

My Symmons shower valve in the spare bedroom stopped providing hot water after about 7 years of intermittent use. The flow control spindle can get clogged or stuck over time so it's not unusual and it's a quick and easy do it yourself fix to replace the TA-10. I knew this was not an OEM part but it had good reviews and was 1/5th the cost of the OEM so I figured I'd give it a try. Out of the box it looks beautiful and to the naked eye nearly identical the the OEM I pulled from my shower. The first thing noticed is that there are fewer holes in the flow section and match better the Low Flow version of the TA-10 than what I have on the OEM valve. This was not a deal breaker for me (maybe it's a good thing actually), but what did cause a problem is the star end stem which attaches to the handle of my shower valve is too big and will not insert into the handle. Side-by-side I could see no difference but I then pulled out my calipers and sure enough it was a fraction of a mm larger than the OEM and just enough to not fit in the handle. Since I had the calipers out I then started measuring the total length of the body, the length of the stem, the thickness of the collar and they were all a few to several 100ths larger than the OEM. This does not seem to be a manufacturing variability issue either as I tried three different TA-10 assemblies from this seller and they were identical to each other, all bigger the the OEM and none fitting my shower handle. (I had three because the first two times I ordered they were lost in shipping then a week later the two lost ones showed up... no fault of the seller or Amazon). So with that I need to give this 1 star as it simply does not fit my shower valve system and it's not really identical to the OEM TA-10. Maybe I have a particularly dimensionally intolerant Symmons valve handle since other people seem to have success, but with every dimension slightly off seems I should just pay the 5x more for the OEM replacement.
