This allowed me to ensure my syrup was thick enough. The first batch I made without this was like water. After using this, my syrup was good and thick. I made sure to be careful when testing to not let it drop to the bottom of my test cylinder. If you plan on making your own syrup, this is the tool you need to get the correct thickness.

Love this hydrometer but I was broken hearted when I forgot it was in my jacket pocket and broke when I sat down to throw more wood in the evaporator. It is great and I highly recommend getting this if you are new in making maple syrup. Helped me big time!

After our friend laughed over the fact that we used a wooden spoon with black marks on them to determine if our maple syrup was done or not, he suggested we buy this particular hydrometer, and yes it takes all the guesswork out of it! Nice addition to our new hobby!

Satisfied with the seller, pretty hard for them to screw up on one item unless it arrives broken.Did slime the fact that the Hydrometer is VT tested and required but it is made in China.They should stock and sell Made in USA

I ordered this product because it was state rated. However, after using this hydrometer one season it was tucked safely for the next cooking season. It worked for one day and then retained water in the lower chamber. It then cracked and was not usable again. I really expected this to work longer than three cookings. Any help from this company would be greatly appreciated.

This has worked well for me so far. Other reviewers have complained that it breaks easily, which is probably true, but the instructions do warn you to lower the hydrometer in to the sap and not to drop it for this exact reason. It is fairly easy to use, and the instructions are easy to understand.
