OK... its weird that I have more than one of these... But I am a troop co-leader in the girl scouts and this is a skill I like to teach! This one is my personal one and I always use it to WOW the girls on how to start a fire. I have a couple others that came with survival kits, as well as large packages of the cheap ones I've bought for the girls in the troop. None of them come close to the quality and ease of use of the Texas Bushcraft model!!- Dont buy the cheap firestarters! It will just be frustrating and lose your money. Buy quality itme like this one. Especially if you are a beginner.- Good handle! easy to grab when you are striking. Thick rod ensures good sparks.- The paracord with several layers inside is absolutely fabulous!! So glad they sell it seperately because I changed my paracord for theirs.- Only thing I didnt really like is that the internal firestarter of the paracord is not really that easy to light! Not a big deal for me, as I usually use a different firestarter anyways... just don't rely on it unless your are a really good and experienced survivalist

Matches can get wet. Lighters can run out of fuel. Yes, I still carry both but redundancy in the backcountry is never a bad thing so this little backup is always in the kit as well. The paracord lanyard that serves multiple purposes is a nice addition. The ability to get a fire lit in an emergency situation is critical for warmth, cooking and overall comfort/peace of mind, so get a few so you're never left without a reliable fire starter when and if you need it.

We bought this to add to our emergency kit. This striker is of great quality and works like a charm. It’s light weight and easy to hold. Using it is very simple and it produces nice sparks on each strike. We paired this with some fire starting plugs to ensure we have the ability get a fire going in any situation.

Purchased this Texas Bushcraft Fire Starter to have in an off road vehicle, as a safe guard for unexpected circumstances. I did try it first and is very easy to use. Used to ignite a plain cotton ball, worked very quickly and easily. Great sparks to start a fire. I also, put vaseline on a cotton ball and the results were great! The vaseline cotton ball burns longer and is part of my emergency kit (cotton balls, with vaseline in a pill bottle). The whistle and cord are great additions. Very happy with this purchase!!!

This is an awesome little fire starter. It is so easy to use and sparks really quick. This is great for camping because the size is small enough to be able to carry. Because the size is small enough to be able to carry.
