This is like buying three mutes in one: the mute as it is, the mute with you hand making it wa-wa, and the mute without the tube, which gives you that 50's bebop sound. This is like a scaled-down Harman mute. When I tried an original Harman without the tube, its tone was so booming and strange and hard to blow I thought it required the tube to be in. With the Jo-Ral, it is not strange, just very cool sounding. Way to go Joe!

This mute sounds great in my small bore tenor trombone, and it fit right out of the box without needing any cork adjustment. I really like the tone. Some of the promotional materials say that it is cutting and buzzy, and it can do that. It can also sound great and mellow with softer blowing.

This mute plays evenly in all registers. The intonation is better than other harmon mutes and I like the feel of mute.
