Silk: from humble cocoon to one of the world's most coveted fibers
The tradition of silk worm cultivation reaches back to ancient times when the fibers produced were reserved for only the highest tiers of society. Now, you don't have to be royalty to enjoy crafting fabric, yarn and beauty products with silk.
Tussah Silk
The economical go-to choice for soap making. Tussah silk, also known as Wild silk, isn't strictly cultivated so the caterpillars can receive varying diets resulting in different hues and textures. It has a slightly shorter staple length than other silks but plenty of loft for spinning.
Muga Silk
Muga is the strongest of the silks, and among the most durable of all natural fibers. This precious golden fiber is only produced in the Assam region of India and was once reserved for royalty. When handled with care, garments made from this silk will last a lifetime.
Eri "Peace" Silk
Eri is also called Peace silk because it is cruelty-free, harvested after the silk caterpillar emerges from its cocoon as a moth, allowing it to live a full life cycle. The rich golden and copper tones you can find are completely natural and come from the conditions in which the silk worms are cultivated.
Mulberry Silk
Mulberry silk is made by cultivated Bombyx Mori moths that eat only mulberry leaves—essentially a superfood for silkworms! The result is a superior quality silk that lends beautiful drape to homespun yarns.
Soap Making
We recommend Tussah silk for soap making. Create the most luxurious bars by dissolving small amounts of silk in your lye water; also makes your bars harder and longer lasting. It works equally well for cold process soaps and DIY moisturizers.
Hand Dyeing
Experiment with dyeing the different natural silk colors to achieve sparkling bright hues with golden undertones. Eye-catching dyed silk can be used for embellishments to any fiber project or spun into glossy yarn.
Blending and Spinning
Add luster and drape to hand-spun yarn by blending silk with your fiber before spinning. Or blend to create delicate felted fabric with extra softness and shine.

I use a small pinch sized amount per 1lb soap. I cut it up into 1/4 inch pieces BEFORE adding lye to the water.After 30 mins to 1 hour I strain the lye water to remove any undissolved pieces.Silky soft bubbles and leaves your skin soft.

It took a while for me to learn to spin this super soft fiber, but it is beautiful and so soft.

I am a huge fan of the fact that the moths are allowed to live through their entire life cycle with this. I figured 2oz would be fine for seeing how I liked spinning silk on my kiwi, just as a test. Didn't think I'd get this much out of it. I spin fairly thin - somewhere between DK weight and fingering weight when chain plyed - and I currently have almost half a bobbin full with only half the bag of silk used. :) Guess I didn't take into account how light silk actually is lol. Happily impressed with it and love how soft it is.

Gives soap a very nice slip and creaminess. Unbelievable how soft and smooth my skin feels. I read where silk and clay in cold processed soap makes a luxury bar of soap. They are right. I’ll probably use it in all my cold process soap making. I’m serious. Thanks for selling such an amazing product……Joanie

I would recommend updating the image or have one next to an item for size comparison. The quantity of package is 2oz in weight of fiber; however, the image looks like the product would be bigger. The price seems good value for my intended use (soap making) and should last for a while.

No se diluye bien con sosa cáustica. Supuestamente sirve para realizar jabones pero se pierde mucho material ya que no se diluye del todo.

No tussah silk in package just some transparent silicone blobs. Unfortunately did not check properly and was under the impression that the silk is safe under the bubble wrap. When I finally opened the whole thing no silk fibres were found.
