  • Find your lens filter size (in mm) printed near the Ø symbol on the lens or back of the lens cap. You can also find your filter size on your lens cap, or search online with your lens model, e.g., "Canon EF 24mm f1.4L USM II filter size" for 77mm.

  • Urth has two ranges: Urth (standard) with Japanese AGC glass and an 8-layer nano-coating, and Urth Plus+ (professional) with German SCHOTT glass and a 20-layer nano-coating (30 layers for UV Plus+).

  • Yes, our filters are double-threaded for stacking. For best image quality, use only one filter at a time as stacking can cause vignetting. Avoid stacking more than two filters.

  • Variable ND: Good for changing light.

    Fixed ND: Best for control.

Remember, higher ND numbers mean more light restriction. For bright conditions or silky water effects, use ND64 to ND1000. ND64 is versatile for most situations.

  • For wide-angle and telephoto lenses, we recommend our Variable ND2-32, ND8-128 or fixed ND filters to avoid an x-cross effect in your photos.

Well built variable ND filter. The inner and outer threads are buttery smooth; easy to attache and remove and/or stack. Have not experienced an "X" pattern in the limited number of images and video shot to date. There is a very slight (very very slight) blueish cast that is easy to remove in post if desired.

I recently went on a trip to Upper Michigan where I got to practice my photography on some gorgeous waterfalls. I'm new to having my own DSLR, and I'm not all that comfortable with adjusting aperture/ISO/etc yet (although I'm trying to learn and loving it!). I came across this filter and thought it would be perfect for taking on my trip, as my images often overexpose and this seemed like an easy way for me to control the amount of light while I'm still learning - plus it'll be a tool that I can grow into and use to its fullest when I get more skilled!I was absolutely floored with how helpful this was and how transformative it was for my images! It was amazing for cutting down glare and allowing my camera to really pull out the beautiful saturated colors in rocks and trees. I saw some reviews mentioning that users' images had an unsightly vignette, but I don't see or notice an objectionably heavy vignette on any of my vacation images (I was shooting on a Nikon d3500 with both 18-55mm and 55-200mm lenses). The rock formation image that I shared was taken using this filter on a day that was overcast and hazy but still quite bright - as a result the lighting conditions were washing everything out quite badly. This filter gave my images a richness while still capturing the beautiful cool and overcast feeling. I think it looks just perfect. If the clarity looks a little poor, it has everything to do with the fact that I was using a telephoto lens while on a boat as a novice (my images without the filter are comparable quality). One thing worth noting is that the example images I shared are with the filter set to its darkest setting. In the viewfinder, the image looks very dark but it turns out just perfect. It does make it harder to see your composition and focus in certain light settings, but I was able to get some incredible shots regardless. I just had to point, shoot, and trust my gut sometimes. Most of the time I was able to see well enough to get the composition down, even if I couldn't see some small details. I just checked my shots in between and adjusted settings accordingly. As a beginner, I was really happy to have this with me on my trip as it dramatically increased the quality of my images and allowed me to pick up rich saturated colors while maintaining high detail. It was perfect for really sunny areas with reflective surfaces as well as for overcast areas that were washed-out. This filter is so versatile and so fun to use. Plus, I'll be able to make it work even harder for me when I can play with adjusting aperture as I learn.Overall, this is a great filter. I feel like it is working hard for me even as a beginner. I will take it with me on any outdoor shoot that I go on, and I highly recommend it!

This is a great variable ND filter and I’ve used it now for two years and it hasn’t failed me yet though when I shoot in vertical mode, I noticed a little bit of a blue or color cast, which is corrected in post but still not perfect.

This is a very serious and excellent neutral density filter. I am using the 77mm on a 24-120 Nikon lens with a Nikon 750. Normally, pictures shot on a very sunny day would be hazy with faded colors. I just shot a bunch of shots of my grandkids. The pictures were clear and the color rich. Mostly, I was using the lowest setting on the filter because I was having trouble seeing the subjects with the fullest filter setting--that's how much light it filters. Sometimes the flash would pop up and go off. This filter allows for wide open lens on very sunny days. In other words, it allows you to take a portrait with lots of bokeh. It's great to have this range in a neutral density filter. 3-7 stops is a phenomenal range, and I didn't detect a hint of lines or vignettes. The filter comes in a sturdy metal case. I have another variable neutral density filter for another lens (67mm) that is quite good and somewhat less expensive. This Urth filter just blows that one away.

This review is for the Urth 67mm ND8-128 (3-7 Stop) Variable ND Lens Filter (Plus+). I tested this filter on the Nikkor Z 24mm-200mm lens, and did not experience any issues with vignetting throughout the range of the lens, from wide angle (24mm) to telephoto (200mm).I have a number of Urth (or Gobe, their former name) filters and in general these lenses are well made. This filter is well made as well, with smooth rotation of the ring, a slim rim, and German Schott glass has 20-layer nano-coating, which is designed to help produce truer light transmittance, more protection, and easier cleaning. The filter is also double threaded to allow for stacking. The filter comes in a nice protective case, and there are markings on the rim to designate the neutral density range, from ND 8 to ND 128. Each filter comes with a little cleaning cloth and if you register the lens Urth promises to plan 5 trees. The attached photo was taken at f6.3 and a shutter speed of 100, on a very bright day.Highly recommended!

Heavy vignetting around the borders, ruins great photos! Pretty disappointing experience with Urth / Gobe.

39mm variable ND filters are extremely hard to find which is a little strange because it's a common filter size for rangefinder lenses yet pretty much no one aside from Urth makes them, this one on it's own is pretty good it has hard stops on each side that prevent you from reaching that dreaded X pattern that VND's are typically known for. The quality of the glass is top notch and the filter turns smoothly. 3-7 stops is also a good ND range for me personally it and should work really well with shooting your lenses wide open on film . The 39mm filter size is really important to me because now I don't have to worry about adapting a bigger size filter on my lenses and have it create blockage in my viewfinder on my Leica cameras. Overall if you shoot a lot with LTM or M-Mount lenses with a 39mm filter size this almost a must have in my opinion, especially if you're not adapting them on to mirrorless and are actually shooting them on rangefinder cameras as intended.

Bought this for lunar photography but can be used for so much more. Works very nicely, the only thing I am not sure about is my Canon R8 lens shield just pushes on the end but doesn't lock on, probably as it fits to the filter adjustment part of the filter. The fit could be better but on the upside you twist the lens shade to vary the filter and I guess that is the idea of it. Anyway, a great filter, as you can see on my lunar image, this was a single shot, one of 100 shots taken, and the contrast the filter gives is great! Quite good for a single shot, can't wait to see what the 100 images look like once stacked together, processed and sharpened.
