This cuts G1/4 just fine... UNLESS you try to use it on high speed tools or without lubrication. I knew what to expect, tried it on a scrap piece with no lube, and it cracked and broke the edges. The slowest speed on my drill press and a little mineral oil and I ended up with perfect cuts in 1/8", 1/4" acrylic and 3/8" Lexan. It started cutting exactly where it should, and I didn't have any travel before it bit. Mineral oil is usually the cheapest lubricant and works fine, but if you have anything medium bodied and silicone based then that's easier to clean off. The problem is that those usually come in "flavors"...if you catch my meaning.

This tap worked great to mod the inlet and outlet of the D5 pump top with barb fittings. My D5 pump had 1/2" hose barb fittings cast into the composite pump top. I wanted to be able to use standard G1/4 fittings without shelling out the stupid money for a pump top that would accommodate my needs, so I cut off the barb, enlarged the hole to 13/32, and hand tapped the threads. Worked a treat and now I can use standard fittings screwed directly into my pump.The tap paid for itself in the first use. Very pleased with the threadform and fitting feel.

Tap cleaned up a damaged thread on a coffee machine and now allows the fitting to thread in fullly.

Very low quality tap. Does not cut aluminum. May be ok to clean up threads but will not create a new hole.

Purchased for building PC cooling parts. Just as well. Had an assortment of badly threading parts, quick turn through with this thing had them threading perfectly.

It will tap plastic, and probably aluminum/brass, but Id be hesitant to cut anything harder with it. Some burrs left on the tap from where they cut the threads.It does seem to thread properly, and PC water cooling fittings engage and tighten.

Can't complain about a thing. Taps cast acrylic, 360 brass, and 145 copper without any issue. Use some cutting fluid for a tap of this size to avoid chips in acrylic and lubricate the metal to metal contact. Using these, as many other reviews do, to tap for the standard G1/4" in PC watercooling. Ordered several of these and all of them work just as they should. I use my milling programs to cut the hole, so I know I'm always dead straight and down to the .0001" for the rigid tapping cycle.

Used this tap to repair a compressor. The compressor tank had a drain valve that broke off as it was checked and removed leaving the threads inside the tank connection.This tap helped clear the old drain valve threads ready for the new one to be installed.This fix is not for everyone as the tank pressure is reduced due to preexisting water corrosion inside the existing tank but allows the tank to be returned to service albeit at reduced working pressure until a new air reciever tank can be sourced and delivered. If your air tank is in good condition internally then you'll not have an issue.
