Their newest lineup, V21s, offers great playability and great sound. It's very pleasant and focused.

These reeds sound very good. The price is awesome for them. They work very good. They fit good and have a perfect spice. They are very durable as well.

I was using reeds that were getting old, not holding my improved air support and skills. Gave these a try. Looked at some online videos about how to break in reeds. Very happy with my darker, warmer, fuller sound. I was using #3 regular Vandoren reeds. Looking at the chart on the Vandoren website, I decided to try the 3.5 in the V21s. Works well - sometimes they need a bit of balancing with a very fine sandpaper, but I am actually happy with my sound. I'll keep using these. So worth the extra $10 over the regular Vandorens.

By far the best reed I have ever used. I use # 3 strength and found this read to be a bit harder, probably more on the order of a 3 1/4. However, not all that hard to adjust to and the tone is darker and richer. I have only opened 2 reeds, so far, and both are winners. I have about 20 hours on each reed and still going strong. The tonal response is dynamic and makes you want to play more. I will now look for the equivalent in the Alto sax.

I started playing clarinet again after a long absence. Over time, if you don't play, your embouchure will weaken and you won't be able to use the same strength reeds as you once did. I used traditional Vandoren reeds, strengths 4-4 1/2 while I was in college. Since restarting my practicing, I tried the 3 1/2 traditional reeds, with them being too hard at first, and now becoming a bit too soft. According to the chart Vandoren provides on its website, the V21 3 1/2 strength reeds are about the strength of a Traditional Vandoren 3. Knowing I wanted something about the same strength or a tad bit stronger than what I was using, I chose the 3 1/2+ V21's, as the Traditional reeds would take at least 21 days to ship! Again, according to the chart, these reeds should be approximately the same strength as the Traditional 3 1/2 reeds, if not a bit softer. They are not. While I love the stability between registers these reeds offer, I find greater resistance with these reeds and a stuffier sound in the lower registers because they are so hard. The upper registers, in contrast, are beautifully articulated. Vandoren representatives, if you're reading this, please rethink your chart on your website so it more accurately reflects the comparative strengths of your reeds. I have listened to others who have reviewed your reeds on YouTube, and many say the same thing: The V21 reeds are stronger than the box indicates. For fellow clarinetists who are buying their first box of these, I strongly encourage you to first purchase one of the samplers Vandoren sells before purchasing an entire box of reeds. Until my embouchure strengthens again, I won't be using these reeds as much as I would have liked.

I played a lot in high school (some 30 odd years ago) and remember that I preferred the Vandoren reeds. I usually bought the reeds in the silver box so when I joined a community band a few years ago, I naturally gravitated towards my old favorites. However, I want to improve as a player and have begun researching clarinets and the various parts that go into making music. I'm playing consistently sharp across the register and wanted to know what I needed to do to improve that tendency. I had already upgraded my mouthpiece and barrel so I started testing reeds in different strengths: Mitchell Lurie, synthetic, plasticover, Vandoren; I would give each reed a few weeks of practicing and rehearsing. Then I came across the Vandoren V21 reed - I love these reeds! I have not yet come across a "dead" reed and the tone is a nice warm tone. I still want to further test reeds but it does get to be an expensive undertaking! So for now, I'm sticking with the V21's. I think it is one of the best reeds I've played on and when it comes down to a concert - it is the V21 I for which I reach!!!

I use the traditional reeds by Vandoren and I saw these and decided to give them a try. I’ve been working on a solo and have had some trouble with the register notes when I tried these I noticed an instant improvement with my register notes. Although they cost more I will definitely be making the switch to these reeds.

These worked out really well for me. I noticed that out of four different types of Vandoren reeds, I seem to get more performance grade reeds out of these boxes (v21). Currently on a closed M30 Vandoren setup. This, of course, may change if I go to a different mouthpiece. For most intermediate and beginner players who don't work on matching setups, the higher price of these reeds is not worth the effort. Any box of Vandoren reeds will have the same overall quality. So, if you're on the regular blue box, or whatever else, you might as well stick to it.
