The description says 'made in India' and shows a yellowish wood with a big knot in the handle. What I got was much better, a V&B Manufacturing handle made in Arkansas with clear grain. Did not say if it was hickory but it looks right. Reason for 3 stars is that it was pretty overpriced compared to similar hickory handles at the big box hardware stores, and it came with some kind of varnish on it. I sanded it off and refinished with boiled linseed oil.

This axe handle worked perfect for my husbands double bitter. Not the greatest Christmas gift, but he has already put it to good use. It shipped on time & arrived as promised

Just as described and made in the USA. I am slow & have not yet installed the handle or I probably would rate it five stars. Buy with confidence.

Grain orientation is nearly horizontal, which isn't ideal for most people. Kerf is a little off but not bad. Coated in varnish like most other cheap handles.
