Works just like a "Tug-Bar" or "Thumb-Rest" should. Holes line up perfectly with the ones in the pickguard on my Fender P-Bass.

In my opinion, this is not thick enough for a thumb rest. I am going to add a shim to it to be more robust and lift it up to clear the strings. So like just about every guitar-related item, I have ordered from Amazon, it will turn into a project.

Don't use the screws they send. I drilled the holes, used screw wax, and the heads broke off.The holes in the thumbrest were also not predrilled wide enough so the screws would smoothly slip all the way through the thumbrest. I needed to cut the thumbrest off the instrument to remove the screws after they broke off.

The screws are inferior. One screw broke during installation. The shaft of the screw actually twisted apart leaving me holding a screw head with an eighth inch of shaft attached. It appears there was enough of the screw in place to hold so I cut the shaft and crazy glued the screw head in the hole. Otherwise it's a decent thumb rest. The rosewood matches the finger board of my bass and looks great.
