I was initially frustrated with this. I brought the hammer down at least a dozen times without separating the bead. (15" alloy rim from a Prius)I finally realized that while I was trying to use this on a concrete driveway, the wheel was bouncing too much on the tire sidewall, underneath. I found two blocks of wood (any scraps of 2x lumber should work) and set the rim on them under where I was aiming the slide hammer. This worked like a charm. The wheel and rim sitting on the solid wood raised the underside of the tire off the concrete, preventing the tire from absorbing the slide hammer force. The force was correctly focused on separating the bead under the tip of the tool, without bouncing. The bead came down with the first impact and I got the bead completely down with just 2 or 3 more impacts.

I would say it is meant more for truck tires. I used it for a normal car and I was unable to break the bead plus I damaged the rim while trying. The paint from the tool chipped away with the first try.
