The U is only about 3 inches wide and I needed 3 1/2 inches so I couldn't make it fit. Seems to be a sturdy pipe. I ended up using a flex pipe because of the low clearance I had.

Installed despite lack of instructions. Item drips water. Not acceptable! Don't buy this defective item.

My daughter tends to drop things down the sink quite a bit and I have to pull the p-trap to retrieve the items. This p-trap is a great concept since it has a cap at the bottom of it that you can use to drain and retrieve items caught in the P-trap. The only problem that I had is you have to be very careful when you replace the cap as it leaked on me several times. It came with a very thin gasket (see picture), that I could not understand what it was for as it didn't fit the cap. The kit comes with a bag of gaskets with one that fits better in the cap than what was in there. That gasket seems to seal much better (the black thick one in the picture). Overall it is a nice high-quality P-trap with quality materials and build.

So far, it's doing fine, make sure you trap all waste before the drain. Because this has a center dip, and waste that doesn't flow will stop and build up in there, but there is a cap to remove and clear it.I have a fine mesh basket that I have in the sink that I use to strain out all food waste before it goes down the drain.Do not over tighten the plastic cap in the center, its plastic, so over tighten it will cause it to leak.I got a new sink, so going from a double to a large single, this was the drain pipe that I needed.
