It's been 5 years without an antenna. This base, plus 16 inch wip is amazing. Catching stations far away. Was skeptical at first, though thrilled now since I don't have to use up the family's cell service data anymore. ðŸ‘,

We have a 2006 VW Beetle. The antenna base needs replaced because of the car wash. The description says direct replacement. This base is much much smaller than the original equipment antenna base. I felt this was a bit deceiving. Will it fit - yes - is it a direct replacement no. IMO.

Take apart your OEM one (the two angled phillips screws in the bottom). It has a circuit board inside with all kinda fancy stuff. This one is just the wire going straight from the base to the threads. That's all. So basically it's no different than one with a bad board in it. The soldier connection to the threaded tip is not very good either. When I had it apart to find all this out i messed with it a little to much and the connection broke off. On the MK4 hold the mix button for like 5 sec and once in test mode hit it again and it will tell you if it's on. If it's off it either a bad head unit or antenna base. Switch with a buddies factory radio and see it even tries to stay on. I switched mine with a radio i know is good and it would come on for a second then go off. That's the only way I know to find out if it's the head unit, antenna base or both.
