ok..First things first.. he bad p0ints:1) this is kinda small.. It is maybe 4 inches of actual class/liquid.2) it's expensive3) You would think when you get it, you would have more than a small diagram of the different reading the glass ifs making.4) If you want the "Stormmglass Plaque" it is like 50 bucks extra.. (I wouldn't get it if I was you.)..now all the good points..1) It LOOKS very nice2) It comes with stand or wall mounting options3) It really works...NOTE*** It is accurate for the NEXT day or so.. It is weird it will say it is "stormy" and it is totally sunny out.. but the next day.. rain! (It DOES say that the readings are for the *upcoming* weather )Bottom line is I would get one.. it is like a "thing to get someone who has everything" with today's non-stop weather channels it*is totally* not needed.. but is SO freaking cool,, that you should get it! If it was cheaper and/or came with the nice plaque it would be any easy 5 stars. That being said, the glass itself , brass mounting options and accuracy is wonderful!Jim

Looks great, and it seems to work. It looks even better in person than it does in the pictures. It was easy to set it up for wall hanging or free standing. While no one actually needs one, its a great conversation piece. I love it!

It looks very dignified on my shelf. No matter what the weather's doing the crystals have not changed in the 3 years I've owned it, despite having it in a room where a stiff wind will shift the curtains over a closed window. The formations in the stormglass remain lovely and feathery about half way up the glass, not unlike the picture featured in the description. According to the instructions that means the weather is always improving, which I suppose is a good thing.

This is very beautiful and fun to watch. It is well made and a great addition to my back porch weather station. Not sure how to predict weather with it as yet but it is fun to to watch crystals form and dissolve.

When it came, this storm glass was the size of the length of my hand. However it is interesting to watch the crystals form and predict the weather. It's pretty accurate!

If you have no sense of embarrassment, care nothing about the scientific method, and you think the pyramids might have been built by aliens, the "storm glass" is perfect for you. What the heck is the mystery anyway? It's actually just ammonium chloride, potassium nitrate, and camphor in ethanol. Among other medicinal and cooking applications, camphor comes in handy as a cockroach repellent and can be distilled from turpentine. This lovely concoction will form crystals with fascinating and different growth habits depending on the temperature of the solvent. However, there is no proven correlation between these various formations and the "weather." None! That they do change in response to room temperature changes was recently demonstrated by a peer-reviewed study in the Journal of Crystal Growth 310 (2008): 2668–2672, Tanaka, Yasuko et al. "Pattern formation of crystals in storm glass". So I can only give one star to this classy but mysteriously expensive knickknack. If you want to rely on this thing to predict the weather, you will be LESS accurate than if you had simply guessed.

A well make product. The product is a good conversational piece from a time gone bye. It does perform as indicated.

We have a Galileo thermometer and this is its new playmate. The stormglass' minimalist design and shiny brass finish make it a good companion. The crystals do change from day-to-day although over a single month's observation we have not seen a clear glass. We have no really serious requirement that it be an accurate weather forecasting device merely that it be an attractive conversation piece.
