DISCRIMINATING BUYER

Like many people, I am most skeptical of claims made by advertisers and some reviewers (they are the most sinister since we, the innocent buying public, believe them to be a buyer like we are, not a promoter). 'Ya gotta be careful what you believe!Anyway, this slicer really is all the manufacturer says it is - and more. I made a strawberry pie a few days before finding, then purchasing a Westmark Germany Stainless Steel Slicer from Amazon. I took almost 30 minutes to pull the stems and thinly slice the strawberries for two pies without the slicer - just a sharp knife, patience and me. By the time I'd finished that chore, I didn't even want a strawberry pie or anything else containing strawberries! So, I went to Amazon looking for a more efficient (as in easier, faster, each slice consistently the same size, all that with no slicing into a finger, or lost patience) tool for this job. There are a few of them available but . . . the fact this one is made of stainless steel and made in Germany, helped convince me this one is the slicer to buy. It helped since I have, and have had for many years, a large Westmark slicer. The larger one is a dream for my 'single-slice' type of food preparation. The blade - just one - is not adaptable for small slices as a strawberry should be.So, I bought the strawberry-sized slicer. And to make doing anything with strawberries a lot easier and faster, I also bought a Chef'n StemGem Strawberry Huller. My thumb and thumbnail were so sore by the time all those strawberries were devoid of their stems and leaves, I knew I needed something for that job as well. Now I am supplied with the tools I didn't know existed (honestly, I'd never searched for a tool for this project and now, I don't know why I didn't) to make any strawberry project faster and easier. The day they both arrived, I bought a large container of strawberries - enough berries for a pie, 2 French toasts and topping for 2 bowls ice cream with berries. These berries were the freshest, brightest, most beautiful bug red strawberries; I was anxious to be home to begin hulling and slicing these luscious looking strawberries with my new tools. All in all, I used the same amount of strawberries as were in the previous two pies. That task took 30 minutes to prepare the strawberries. Using my two new tools, the job was finished in 12 minutes!!! WOW!!!I was ready to slice some more. It is fun to use this slicer, or so I thought.. Especially after struggling with a previous slicer that did nothing but smash the berries into a horrible mess, as well as I'd too regularly cut a finger, or two while trying to thinly slice a berry. This Westmark tool is a dream.Ya, it is fun to use this very efficient, heavy - but not too heavy. Rather it felt like a quality product that will not fall apart in a short time, as a plastic slicer did on me. With the huller, I found if I pulled off the leaves, then used the huller, it worked best on the very large berries I'd bought.Good luck and better, far superior berry slicing.I have nothing to do with this company or anyone associated with it. This is my personal opinion and all comments are genuine and from the heart. I received nothing for complimenting the manufacturer who created a quality product.Try it, if you slice strawberries, mushrooms or similar somewhat soft food - I'll bet you will really like it.

I've used this almost every day since I got it. It works great with hard boiled eggs. I have not yet tried it for slicing strawberries or kiwis or other soft fruits and items. It is sturdy and the blades are extremely sharp. The design of it gives you more control over the slicing than the typical slicers do, from my experience anyway, although I usually bought the cheaper type of slicers. Yes, this costs a bit more but it is a quality product that I suspect will last for years. And there is not one bit of plastic on it! Another plus. Some reviewers have complained that it is not large enough for slicing a large egg without part of that egg, the top part, being squished rather than slices. Egg sizes vary even within a package, but there is some validity to that complaint. However, I have found that all you need to do to prevent that from happening is to position the egg closest to the inner edge of the upper cutting blades, rather than situating it on the lower part. That is, slightly shift the egg back using the upper blade part to position the egg, rather the lower part. The other trick is to slowly squeeze the parts together. Even with the largest eggs, I haven't had the 'squish' problem to any great extent.Cleaning is simple with a quick rinse and a little toothbrush action on the blades, gently pat with paper towels and set aside to air dry.Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. It is the only egg slicer I will need for a long time.

I initially bought these for strawberries, but I now use mostly for button mushrooms and tiny new potatoes. It has sturdy blades, not wires, for ease of cutting and cleaning. This will last a long time and well worth having in your arsenal of kitchen gadets! You won't be disappointed. Makes a unique gift for fellow culinary gurus ...

Good sturdy design, I thought looking at the pictures it was going to be bigger, but it does the job well. So far I've used it for mushrooms, small fruit, and hot cherry peppers. They only thing I don't like is the clean up, it would be great if it were dishwasher safe, but in the direction it says hand wash. The oils from the peppers is a pain to get off. Besides that I'm really impressed with it's performance and clean cuts. Definitely not like the ones I've used in the food service industry, but good enough for home use.

Works great on mushrooms & strawberries so far. Cut my knuckle the first time use as I was cleaning it. So now I use a brush to clean between the blades. Safer that way. Purposeful Pantry suggested this and I really like it. Easy on the hands too! Thank you Darcy Baldwin!!! It's a wonderful tool! I keep coming back to using it more than I realized before. You just breeze through the slicing and if you use a brush, it cleans up quickly. Sometimes when the strawberries are a bit firmer, you have to use two hands to squeeze the blades together to make the final cut, but overall, it is really worth it!

Harvested garlic and needed a tool to quickly slice for dehydrating. This worked like a charm. Sturdy construction.

Used for hard boiled eggs. The slicer was squashing the egg a little to slice through. May work better if egg was very/over cooked. It also will not work for large eggs as the slicing area is quite small. Hope it works better for strawberries!

I am in love with this egg slicer... Where have you been all my life! Solid metal, no wimpy wires to break.seems pricey at first, but it is an investment and you will never have to buy another one

This is the best mushroom slicer I have used, and I've used a few.. Well worth the price. I have been using it for just under 2 years and it still works great. My wife loves it too.
