Not to be provided to anyone like Mrs. Bobbit. It is a miniature guillotine, well constructed and does its job. But, it is dangerous and should be stored in a place which children cannot access. There is no safety lock or other device which i would propose to the manufacturer. Possibly a spring loaded button on bottom.

In our household, bagels are a popular breakfast choice. Probably a day doesn't go by without at least one bagel being eaten. My teenage son will eat two for breakfast alone.We like to buy the unsliced bagels from the grocery bakery because they are better than the other bagels in the bread department, but slicing them can get tricky. In particular, I've cut myself more than once while slicing them with a bread knife, which is why I looked for a slicer like this one.Using the cutter is super easy. It takes a little bit of force to push the blade through the bagel, so a 5-year old might have a tough time, but older kids should be able to use it on their own. It's impossible to cut yourself, as the blade is housed in a strong, acrylic cover.One downside is that the bagel is not always sliced evenly. I've attached a picture of a particular slice, where one side ends up a lot thinner than the other. This is an extreme example, but it happens more often than I would like, even when I think I'm lining it up in the middle just right.The cutter is easy to wash in the dishwasher, although for most kinds of bagels you probably don't need to wash it all that often.It's a worthwhile investment if you eat bagels as often as we do in our family. It saves a few seconds of time in the morning and prevents your fingers from getting cut.

I got this for my husband who loves bagels but has had a stroke. It is easy for him to use but takes a lot of pressure to get down through a bagel. I feel for someone like my husband who uses one hand the base needs to be bigger and sturdier. Sometime when he is pushing down through a bagel the apparatus falls over to the side. We even tried putting it on a damp rag as we have granite counters in the house but it still falls over.

No matter the brand or bakery brand, this thing never cuts all the way through. You still have to either tear it the rest of the way or finish the slicing with a knife. No point in using it. Very disappointed.

Lot's of comments about the blade smushing bagels when try to slice them with this tool. Here's a tip to avoid this - I keep my bread and bagels in the fridge so they'll "keep" longer. Since the bagel is firm coming out of the fridge, it's a lot easier to slice it using this tool. I just slice the bagel, pop it in my toaster oven for 4-5 mins and the bagel is perfect. The tool hold most larger bagels too.

I do worry that the base is not sturdy enough to last a long time. Our last one only lasted nine months before the base cracked and lost a corner.

Works great on English muffins as well, but may have to adjust centering. I recommend this product.

it doesn't really cut the bagel in half like one would like ...I thought the sides pushed in to hold the bagel for a more even cut
