The build quality was poor, because it came with one leg wobbly and loose for starters. I was able to tighten it, but then discovered that the leg was still uneven and the toy rocks back and forth when placed on the floor or table. The other issue is the pegs are cheap plastic pegs similar to the type used in a crib age board and they get stuck in the holes so badly that even with the hammer claw AND the special removal tool they included it can be a real problem to get the pegs out of the toy. The holes are simply too small or the pegs too large by a tiny amount and the type of plastic the pegs are made from make it harder. Wooden pegs would be good or metal even better. Obviously you need to watch a smaller child with this toy due to the size of the pegs so I don't see any issues with the pegs being metal or wooden since supervision is required to play with this, and they need help removing pegs each time anyway. My granddaughter does like hammering on this toy, and has fun with it until it becomes frustrating for her due to it not being steady and due to the pegs being impossible for her to remove (some peg holes are worse than others) it is a ok value for the money and would be a good value if it was working as intended for us, and is otherwise a cute, colorful, fun for kids toy if you want something without batteries and you get one that is better made than the one I received. I would say that based on my experience I would recommend the toy, but would suggest looking at other listings because I believe you can find one that will have been made with better quality checks and better pegs for a comparable price. The type of toy is great, but this one was not manufactured all that great.

This is a very solid/sturdy toy and I don't think it will break easily. I wish the pegs were also wooden. They hammer in with a little effort, but younger kids can also do it. Turning the hammer over and using the nail remover tool worked fine for me. I didn't have to use the other tool provided, but that provides another way for kids to remove them (and also hit their hands, so they need to be gentle with that part). It's a good size for little one to move around and use.

My two year old's Occupational Therapist recommend a hammering toy for his development. We ordered this one, it's very stiff the first few times but as you drive the nails through and pull them back out they do get easier. The OT really liked using this one with him and it holds his attention for a good 15 minutes or so. He can hammer them in but hasn't mastered using the claw to pull them back out, which I wouldn't expect at two.

Gave this to my daughter to redirect her hitting and she’s hit a couple in and I can not get them out without pliers. Even that is a pain in the butt.

Overall, I like this hammer toy. The "nails" and hammer work well together. That the nail remover has to be used is great for kids in the 5+ age category. Kids younger than that are likely to need help. Having a functional claw on the hammer for removing the nails once they are started is great. I like that the legs are positioned so that the entire piece can be flipped over when it is time to remove the nails. All components are made with good quality materials. My complaint is that the legs on my version of the toy are uneven. This means that it wiggles back and forth as it is used. Because the legs were attached by the vendor, I can't flip the legs around. (I tried this, but the screws were attached in a way that prevents them from being removed without damaging the legs). The difference in one leg's length is probably less than 5mm, but it is enough to be annoying.

I thought that this would be a great fine motor skill for preschool ages, however it is not very practical and easy to use for the children... Even an adult. It's easy to hammer in the pegs and the hammer is actually quite durable, But it's removing the pegs that is very very challenging. The tool that comes with it to help poke the pegs back out is not very effective unless you take an actual legitimate hammer and hammer the tool down to press the pegs out. Was very difficult and not a toy I would use in the classroom let alone at home with my son because I have to constantly remove each individual peg as soon as they're done being hammered in.

This toy is very stiff at first—hard to get nails in and out. However, this did get easier with more use. Very well made! Kids really enjoy playing with this for a long time!

I was a little surprised with this. It is well made and is seems put together well too. But my disappointment is that the claw of the hammer can’t be used to pry. What a bummer. Granted, the pick hammers them through easy enough but why not have a functioning hammer for just a slight bit more engineering. Other than that, it is a good toy.
