This is a very light weight unfinished wood with a nice rustic wood grain finish. I painted mine with matte black paint because that went better with my color scheme. Note it is a rough finish, not smooth at all. But I liked that because the wood grain shows through my black paint. However, don’t worry about splinters as it is not that rough. It is also not a perfectly symmetrical oval, which gives it that more hand made look. I would highly recommend this if the size and shape fits your decor.

I purchased the 16†light wood bowl and didn’t realize that it’s not an actual oval or curved shape. It’s curved only on one side and is straight on the other. The quality is good and I like the design and color, so it still makes for a nice centerpiece, but I wish I had realized the awkward shape as I would’ve purchased something different.

Smaller than I expected, but I think it was the perfect size for my table. Maybe if it had been a little bigger it wouldn't have looked good since my table isn't very big.
