It is great, not having the yarn roll around as I yank it for more to work with, yes a basket works to keep it safe as well, but this device is really great, makes me happy to pull the yarn and watch it move without tangling. Its smooth crocheting for me.

Although the listing is very clear (my bad) I didn't realized the magnet aspect of this item. It's interesting. The magnet is strong, but I find that if the ball (or cake, in my pics) is bigger or the yarn requires more than just a gentle pull from the center of the cake, this swings a lot, and sometimes even disengages. The yarn that I am using also has some texture, so there is some friction when pulling the yard out of the center of the ball. Having said that, this is an interesting and successful design, as long as you don't have yarn that is too heavy or creates friction. For my own knitting purposes, that would be about 90% of the time.I found right away that I actually love the pole part of the item when it's disengaged. It has a heavy bottom piece that supports the cake, the pole allows spinning as the yarn is pulled, I can pick the thing up by the pole and move it to another spot easily, and it the yarn can easily be placed or removed from the pole. In the past I've used a paper towel holder for this function, but I like this much better as it's more compact and looks nicer than a paper towel holder. Once I discovered I could use this thing this way, I've used it ever since for my latest project.This is nicely made (no rough edges that cause snags), was easy to put together (a screwdriver is even included) and it looks nice sitting around. I love that I discovered a second way to use this. I knit nearly every day and I am delighted with the solution to the problem of balls rolling around everywhere that this provides. Highly recommend.

I knit socks two-at-a-time from a single cake of yarn. I draw the yarn from both the center and the outside of the cake for the two socks. I've tried yarn boxes and bags to try to help keep the yard from getting tangled. This looked like a good tool for my purpose.The Good:-The yarn holder assembled easily.-The bamboo material is smooth.-The magnet is extremely smooth.-The yarn ball spins easily.-I am able to tilt the yarn ball at an angle and untwist the yarn under the platform the ball sit on.The Bad:-NothingThis product exceeds my expectations.

I really like this! It was pretty easy to put together and the pieces fit together well even before the screws were put in. It holds a regular size skein well and spins well. I'm just not sure how well the magnet will hold. It was fine for me, but the skein I used to test it was not wound very tightly. If your yarn is really tight or it gets yanked on the magnet will probably let go. This will not work for large or heavy skeins of yarn though. For my use, it's perfect!
